Good news my fellow Canadians -iennes, we will not be taking part in the BMD (Ballistic Missile Defense) plan originating from south of the border. Amazingly, the Federal Government has decided to stand up for the Canadian traditions of peace keeping and nuclear disarmament ( Read more... )

You pose an interesting question, and to be honest, I think it *would* be the same outcome if Martin had a majority. See, the only party that really disagrees with it is the NDP (whom nobody cares about)and the Bloc (whom people *do* care about). But the sum of NDP and Bloc does not outweigh the sum of Liberal and CA (who are pro BMD). So, really, Martin could do whatever he wanted with very little public, political scrutiny. This is all fine and dandy, but it misses what I deam is the real point ( ... )

Agreed, since the Liberals and Conservatives are allied on the issue there isn't really that much for them to fear. However burning their bridges with the NDP and the Bloc on BMD could very easily come back to haunt them on other issues. If they were to push through BMD support, the next time they call upon the Bloc and the NDP to support them it probably wouldn't be there. A minority government that can't manage to get enough votes together to pass legislation isn't likely to get re-elected. That wouldn't be a concern with a majority government ( ... )
