Hello, old friend?

ADHD is getting ridiculous. I've been diagnosed by "peers" with it, and I'll admit at times I wonder if I do suffer from the "Disease", but after an admittedly small amount of research, I've come to the conclusion that being diseased is the latest in a trend of "Woe is me-America". It's always been around. You get attention and sympathy from being ( Read more... )

I have a friend who has ADD. I took his medicine one day, and since I'm not afflicted, my attentino span became too long. Someone would be telling a story and it'd end and I'd get all pissed off...

Sorry for the lack of focus on my comment, I forgot to take my medicine today.

wow, that was really well thought out. i can't quite gather all of my thoughts on the subject, but a lot of what you said here makes sense. parents aren't doing what they should, i've noticed that for years now, they're backing off with restrictions, guidelines, involvement, and i can see where it would lead to exactly what you're talking about. well done!

ADD may exist, but it's way overdiagnosed in this country. The diagnosis is so general that it could describe any child, and it's not something that medicine should be applied to. It's a parent's job to teach a child how to behave, not dope them up. I couldn't agree with you more

I was on Ritalin for a while. It wasn't my parents that got the idea though, they brought me up right, or so I think. It was my 2nd grade teacher who would get mad at me when I got bored with spelling stuff like turkey, Indians, Pilgrims, and Thanksgiving (in accordance to the whole section in the english book pertaining to Thanksgiving) hahaha. So she suggested to my parents that I go see a doctor (they were like wtf? there's nothing wrong with him) and he gave me some ritalin, which didn't really help I don't think. As soon as I got out of the 2nd grade my parents quickly discontinued my meds. End of story. I guess what I'm trying to say is that sometimes parents aren't the ones making bad choices, but they are pressured by people that can't handle hyperactive children.
