I suspect there are plenty of people out there who got jaded on lolcatz very quickly; they 'moved on'. But the ripples, they just keep lapping and lapping. The simpler the virus, the louder the echo chamber. Some of those people must have been dying a long time ago. "Please, make it stop!" Maybe they think to themselves, "dammit, just another month of this LOL cats nonsense and people will get sick of it already and it will be safe to open my google reader again. I don't think I can stand another week of this." And they started thinking that like, what, 20 months ago? Yeah. I'm guessing those same people will still be seeing lolcats when their kids start trafficking in the shit at age 9.

That's how I feel about our cartoonish moral stories. But the shit just rolls on and on and on. People feed on it and never tire of it. At some point you stop asking, How is it possible?
