OMG this was hilarious, although I don't exactly get the point. Can't believe I've never seen it before.

At the risk of proving that I completely missed the point: as the premise is that the interviewer is there to see "how an American actor prepares for a big show like Rove," MW is riffin' on his fellow thespians ( ... )

Glad you asked, Montana Rosalie, I was as amused as clueless (and don’t even know who Rove is)

And hm, that platypus (my favourite part), could have sworn I saw him mentioned before in some interview but didn’t find anything new. (Other than MW apparently having a namesake doing platypus research:-). But did you know all these?

(Also confused about the accents… Australian show so the guy’s accent is Australian? And Michael is doing Shakespeare so (stage?) British?)

(finally replying -- sorry for the delay!)

He took the platypus on 'Rove' -- it's on You Tube in 2 parts (and it was Rove for which he was allegedly preparing in the above clip.)

Right on the guy with the Australian accent -- and Michael is doing that thing that American actors do to Shakespeare; it's not so much doing a British accent as 'doing Shakespeare;' everyone seems to just fall into this half-mangled British-ish overly enunciated thing -- it just sounds weird to do Shakespeare lines in straight US accents (tho' people try-- and probably should try harder)...

I'm still wondering what in the world all the pawing the other guy is all about; it's just seems so different than other silly stuff he's done. I'm wondering if he was (at least for his own amusement) imitating someone or a type of someones... whatever it is, it makes me snicker every time ... or at least all 43 times I've watched it so far (self-conscious smilie here!)
