I liked that episode, and I love Rose and Nine in it. <3
In fact, I’m pretty sure that’s why the Doctor brought Rose to watch the Earth be destroyed. He wanted her to understand what he was going through, so he had her watch her own planet be destroyed.
I put it down to social awkwardness and loved him for it. Big explosions are awesome! Oh, first time travel... watching your planet explode... no other humans... I guess... huh... I kind of... oops?
The reason I suscribe to the theory that the Doctor (either consciously or subconsciously- the latter of which is more likely, imo) took Rose to see the destruction of her planet in order to better understand him is the conversation at the end.
"You think it'll last forever. People. Towers of concrete. But it won't. One day it's all gone. Even the sky. My planet's gone. It's dead. It burned like the Earth. It's just rocks and dust. Before it's time."
So idk whether it was consciously intentional, but I do think that on some subconscious level, he wanted her to understand him.
Big explosions are awesome!
I think that's more Ten than Nine. Nine wasn't really into the whole saving the day in a dramatic and exciting way while blowing things up. I DO think there was a bit of wanting to impress Rose by going really far into the future, kind of like how Ten was showing off to Martha at the beginning of series 3.
