I haven't traveled as much as you have, but I have enjoyed what I've been able to do. Right now, travel is not on the agenda. (Fixing our cars is - they're both older and high mileage, so we have to keep them running as they're both paid for and thus, even with repairs, cheaper than buying a car.)
Pat and I have flown through Luxembourg several times and found that worked well for us. We'd probably choose Frankfurt because we have good friends there and it's worth the trouble to get a chance to see them while we're passing through.
There are no non-stops from Washington to Luxembourg.
The problems with Frankfurt include excessive use of bus gates instead of jet bridges, which adds a half hour to connections, long security lines, and overcrowded lounges.
