The TV says all I need is family. (Albeit a sappy, hypnotic version.) What lie are they trying to implant? A Libertarian pipe-dream where humans are equipped to help one another? TV and movies celebrate "family" as if the word were the meaning of life. Meanwhile, mesmerized by the boob tube, humans are allowing community to crumble.

I first "began" watching tv around 2009. I would watch charlie rose b4 bed when I was a working girl and had a tv. With the occasional sitcom or jeopardy w mom, tv was never a big part of my life. I would watch Stars Wars on tape when i was a kid. In 2009, I saw Battlestar Gallactica and rocked thru Doctor Who, Firefly and even forced myself to see that stupid beach show w the time travel. I tended around and saw the original Star Trek. I think the revolting sexism turned me off as a kid. We saw Lt. Uhura's panties too many times. I rocked thru all the requisite… Mad Men. The Office. The Office. I can not tolerate Downtown Abbey but I understand it is a soap opera. No one understands my love for Korean soaps! I saw a new American drama ystdy, the new "science v intuition one hour theatrical model" and I look at ALL of them. Everyone has a baby/family. If the dramacom is not about actual family, like Modern Family, the cast in the show becomes the family. Nowadays, more literally. Kate has an affair with Castle. Bones has a kid with ( ... )

I can't get hooked on a soap. I gotta wean myself offa the tv now. lol! korean soaps can be so G rated, it's hilarious but the fight scenes, I love. the best ones are on Hulu. Emperor of the Sea and Chuno come to mind. Warning. One storyline can have 35 episodes! the popular doctor drama has like 92! I don't like the modern stuff as much. i like the historical dramas. Reminds me of Masterpiece Theater when I was a kid, 'cept a zillion episodes! The few on the Flix are alright. i saw the Great Queen Seondeok first but…Chuno is tear-jerking story of slavery. amazing. And the star in Emperor is Hot!
