The summer is over, as is Kat's Summer reading program, but since I like reading, I'm going to continue reporting. So ...
Charmed Thirds (Sloppy Firsts, book 3) by
Megan McCafferty -
I was almost afraid to read this book. I'd read and loved the first two in the trilogy, and then read a summary of this one on Amazon. And I didn't like what I read, not one little bit. But I was encouraged to read this by
masterbetty, who assured me I wouldn't be disappointed. She was right, I wasn't disappointed. Jessica Darling is off to college in this third installment, and hits the typical ups and downs of student life. She does so in her own unique style while still keeping us up to date through her diaries and letters. Worth the read, and I was pleased with how it ended. And I still love Marcus Flutie!
Sweet 16 by
Kate Brian -
This is the story of a very spoiled rich girl on her 16th birthday. She has a "Christmas Carol Scrooge-like" experience when she falls down a set of stairs at her totally fabulous Sweet Sixteen. A semi-cute story, but nothing special.
Sweet Sixteen Princess (A Princess Diaries Book) by
Meg Cabot -
Mia is turning 16 and has no desire for the huge party her Grandmere want to throw. Mis copes with this challenge in her typical fashion, and we get to read about it in her diary. Those who think the series jumped the shark a few books back will enjoy this installation I think, as it's short and sweet, not enough length to be too much of a good thing.
Star Wars: Republic Commando: Hard Contact (Star Wars Republic Commando, book 1) by
Karen Traviss -
I don't read all the Star Wars novels anymore, but since I really enjoyed
The Cestus Deception, I thought I'd give this one, also about clone warriors, a shot. I enjoyed getting to know the different personalities of the clones, and think I'll try to get my hands on the second book in the duology,
Triple Zero.
Startled By His Furry Shorts: Confessions of Georgia Nicolson (Georgia Nicolson, book 7) by
Louise Rennison -
Georgia is up to her usual silliness in this 7th installment. She's trying to get Massimo to commit to being her one-and-only, while at the same time trying to resist Dave the Laugh. To take her mind off the boys, she joins the school production of MacBeth, AKA MacUseless, and tries to stay out of Wet Lindsey's way. Georgia make me laugh out loud, totally preposterous, but still funny as hell.
Pretties (Uglies Trilogy, book 2) by
Scott Westerfeld -
Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. I need to go get
Specials, pronto! What will happen to Tally now? Will she be able to help Zane? Will she be able to get back to the Smoke? Will she forgive Shay? So many questions and I need answers! This is a great trilogy, with the main message being about questioning the status quo. We need to be doing that right now in the world, so this is particularly timely.
