I [All exiles together]

Mar 23, 2011 12:39

[New hand on the journals today. While the writing hand is confident, the script itself is rather careless: someone is jotting down his thoughts casually, as if he were talking not writing.]This is all rather marvelous, isn't it? The way words appear on the page on their own. I'd not have believed it - who would? - but here it is. How are you, then ( Read more... )

making trouble already, hello fishbowl, ilyigan is very honest, curiouser and curiouser

Ilygian. [The pen taps as she considers that name and why it speaks to her, but it's yet another familiar thing to add to the list.]

I am not altogether certain that there is an occupation that covers fighting, though I was given to believe there is a possibility of excitement should one choose to Adventure.

Does it seem familiar, then? There's no reason to that think it should, I suppose, but all things here are strange already. And doubly so, if you tell me that adventuring is now an occupation,
rather than the business of boys who play at being natural philosophers.

Reposting this for Jackie:
The name? Yes, and yet a great many things seem so.

And boys will play, here or elsewhere. It is hardly different when they are paid for it and when they are simply imagining.

And my bit ^^:

[It's a long moment before he writes again. He still isn't used to really noticing handwritings, but the more words appear...

He isn't one to hesitate. He cuts to the point.]

Who are you, doma?

If you seek a name, all I can give you is that I have chosen Mona Lisa.

If you seek more than that, I know nearly as little as you. But as your writing and your name are not completely unfamiliar, I would not object to meeting with you. There is a gathering in the park in two days, the 25th, to celebrate two people reaching a year of captivity here if that would suffice.

While it's true that we're all from different worlds and can't remember it, there are some who have regained some of their memories. Not an easy process either, but useful to know regardless.

Hello, Ilyigan. Welcome to the tree, enjoy your stay.

Have they, indeed? But of course there's a price to it, or this game would have been over long ago.

What is your name, stranger?

There is a price for anything worth knowing, after all.

I am called Book.

Yes, yes. We can blow generalities into the air all day. How does a man come by his memories again?

Book. A man of letters, then?

Exile. That's one way to phrase it.

Welcome, Ilyigan, it's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Juliet.

For those who like fighting, you could, as Miss Mona Lisa has suggested, become an Adventurer, or perhaps offer to join the Guard or Watch, if they are hiring.

What else are we, doma? If I traveled here by my own will, I don't recall it.

I thank you for your welcome, either way. Is there a city watch, then? In such a small city, how much is there for them to do?

Prisoners, travelers, those who have been gifted...

There is one, and although they are small, they are devoted to their duty, and maintain a sense of relative peace.

Fancy names for exile, all. Perhaps this is some man's homeland, but I have my doubts.

And were there no watch, would there be no peace?

The adventurers fight sometimes, I think. And the Guard and the Watch, but only when there's an emergency. There's lots of space to practice at the dojo and on Melee Island, though!

Sometimes is a start, I suppose, as long as these times come with any regularity. What is a 'dojo'?

A place for practicing weapons-work and hand-to-hand, indoors.

Though I guess that sort of depends on the weapon.

I suppose that practice has never hurt any man, although if I rightly remember my weapon of choice, it's not one for an indoor space.

It is good to look below the surface - though too many questions tends to cause problems, here. And thankfully, things have been relatively safe this month.

Now, you can't leave it at that. What problems are these?

Death, for one.
