Well, this is something of a problem. Was this Itachi irreplacable, dome Madara? It might be wise of us, as a group, to have a drill in place for such occurence, especially with no telling what may happen if he returns.

Yes, Itachi was a valuable asset to my plans. In this world and back in our own world.

Mm, well, your own world is your own business. But here - do you have something or someone to fall back on?

It is highly possible that Itachi was more valuable to the ninjas of Konoha than those of Akatsuki. The concern that was shown in regards to his disappearance, and the items that remained, implied a far stronger connection to those of Unohana than those of Madara.

His ring to Alphonse, sake to Unohana... Did any of the Akatsuki receive anything?

Mm... the concern is to be expected , men are well capable of loving what every sense tells them not to. But the ring... I'll tell you this, Carmen. This Itachi, either he was a fantastically clever man, or he was a fragile thing not worth the bother. I cannot see a middle ground.

That is indeed true. I am aware of how such things can linger. I do not see a middle ground either. I would, myself, lean towards the former.

Note how, upon Madara's arrival, those he had been closer too suddenly were distant. There was clear seperation. That would only come from understanding and respect. If they did not think him more useful in an alternate capacity, they would not have distanced themselves so cleanly and quickly.

Itachi slaughtered his kin. This I have from Obito. But those of the Hyuuga household, the ninjas of Kakashi's world along with some of the Shinigami, did not treat him with disdain, hatred, or fear.

Did he? Mm, perhaps his kin were less than savory folk. But it lines up... yes, it does that very well...

If so, then perhaps Madara does not realize it yet, but Itachi has broken him. He's a finished man. Few in the city are as well-loved as the boy Alphonse, he has no shortage of those who would fight and die to protect him - if Madara presses his claim. And if he does not, then he admits not just defeat, but dreadful weakness. He is already too late to feign disinterest. It's a lovely ploy, granted that Madara's destruction was indeed Itachi's end... and that he was willing to sacrifice the boy for that end.

There are two ways that I can see for Madara to somehow survive this. The question is, do you wish for Alphonse to live.
