Who on earth would want a silver snitch?

The Introduction

1. What is your name, and what do you prefer to be called? My name is Ella, and I prefer to be called Ella. There really isn’t a good nickname or a wait to shorten my name except for “El” or “La”, neither of which are very professional.

2. How old are you? I am currently 19, and a good ways away from my next birthday.

3. How did you come across our community? (If you were referred by a member, please mention them so we can give them credit!) I was referred many times by ”bluegemeyes”.

The Canon

4. Choose a character not from Harry Potter (ie: from Lord of the Rings, House, etc) and explain what house (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin) you think they would have been in and why. Because I have recently become obsessed with Star Trek: Voyager, I’m going to pick my favorite character, Tuvok. Tuvok is hard to place because he has no feelings, seeing as though Vulcan’s learn to repress all feelings when they are young. He relies heavily on logic, and for this reason I am going to put him in Ravenclaw. He does not do things without thinking, nor for his own gains, but does them simply because they make the most sense. He is very serious about the work he does, and will not rest until he has come to a solution for his current problem. With his repression of feelings, this makes it easy for him to not care too much about the people around him, which makes it easy for him to side with whichever side he believes is correct. There is a slight bit of Hufflepuff in the sense that he is very loyal to the officers above him, but it has been known that if he thinks they are wrong he will go against them and show them the logic of their mistakes.

5. What character do you most relate to? I’m going to guess this is a Harry Potter character even though it was not specified. Note I have been sitting thinking about this question for quite sometime, around 15 minutes; this is a very tough question. If you mean relate as in have most sympathy for, and can feel what they’re going through, I’m going to have to go with Hermione. I think her life is very similar to mine and so I can understand her thought processes. I will also have to say Hermione if the ability to relate to this person is through similarity. I believe I am very loyal to my friends, and although am quite against breaking the rules, I will do it if need be. I am a natural detective, much like she is throughout the books, trying to figure many of the things going on around her all the time. As it showed in the third book and when deciding their future careers, she seems like she could never really decide on one thing to go into, which I can relate to as well. It seems that almost every week I’m trying to find some type of new information, and really dig down deep and find out the secret to it. The problem is, it get’s boring after a short while.

6. Choose one aspect of the story as told by Rowling that you dislike, and tell us how you would change it. (Please avoid the subjects of romance and shipping.) I’ve also been thinking about this question for quite a while, and realized that all of the things I don’t like about the story were necessary for the story to go as it should, and therefore I wouldn’t really want to change anything. The thing I disliked the most about the entire thing is how incredibly dim Harry is. But that is necessary many times in the story, especially when we’re concentration so much on what Harry is thinking, we don’t notice something really important pass us by. Such as in the third book when Dumbledore mentions that the prophecy Harry heard was the second of Trelawney’s true prophecies. It would have been nice if he had not been so dim the entire time and had opened his eyes and ears more times than not. But if that would have happened, the series would have been over much quicker I believe, because so many things would have worked themselves out so much sooner.

The Person

7. If you could put a memory in a pensieve for the specific purpose of viewing it later, what would it be and why?A memory of my cat. My cat is very special to me, and I think that once he is gone from my life there will be such a large hole in me that it will be irreparable. I think I would choose Christmas a few years ago, I believe it was his first Christmas with us, and he received his first catnip toy. He got so wrapped up in it that eventually he forgot he was playing with the toy and simply started rolling around on the ground under the tree. He was covered in needles after that and was simply laying there on his back for a good 10 minutes, practically out of breath.

8. What are three traits that define you? How has each trait had positive impact and negative impact on your life?
1. Blunt - I am very, very, very blunt. In a positive way this filters out those people who I really don’t want to be around or be friends with. The friends that I have now are the ones who know that when I’m blunt that’s just me, and I’m not trying to be mean, or to hurt anyone’s feelings. In a negative way sometimes I get carried away and I do hurt someone’s feelings when I didn’t mean to. I will say many things without thinking about them.
2. Passive - I’m one of those who will go along with the flow, whatever someone else wants to do, I’ll do it. I’m really easy going. In a positive way this has affected me because I feel I don’t offend people by saying their ideas are bad or what they want to do is stupid. However, in a negative way, I have also noticed that sometimes I don’t have a good time when others decide what to do. But, I have learned to make a good time out of wherever I go, because it’s about who you’re with, not where you are.
3. Curious - I always want to know why something is happening, motives, physics, everything. I want to know the answers to everything. In a positive way, this makes me very interested in school work, and helps me pay attention in class. As long as I can tell myself that the answer is coming up, I’m going to stay locked on to the information coming from the front of the classroom. In a negative way, this need for information sometimes pushes me into the private lives of my friends. Because they will tell me something, I will want to know why they think that, and will want to know their motives behind doing what they do.

9. What is one specific thing that you have never done but strongly wish to do sometime in your life? Jump out of a plane. I can’t think of the technical term for it right now, sky jumping? For some reason it is escaping me. For years my dream has been to fly, as in to actually fly. But since it is physically impossible, this is probably the closest thing I’ll get to doing that. The feeling of falling hundreds of feet and just simply floating to the ground, it would be priceless.

The World

10. What is your biggest pet peeve and why?In school, when the teacher/professor says be quiet, and a group of girls/boys are quiet for about a minute, and then they start talking again. I’ve never really understood what is so hard about shutting up for 30-45 minutes. It bugs me because it takes away from my time to learn, and my time to figure things out and ask questions, which is why I’m at school. If I was there to talk, I wouldn’t be going at all. It just always bugged me because they would never give other people in the classroom enough respect to be quiet for a short amount of time, like we weren’t worth their time.

11. Describe the people you admire most. What do they have in common with each other? How are they different? I admire two people. One of them I have never met personally, but he is still a very big part of my life: Johnny Depp. I think he is so eccentric, and he doesn’t follow the regular Hollywood way of life, but lives the way he wants to. He loves his family so much, and would give up anything for them. He does what makes him happy, not what makes his fans happy, and in this way I think he is such a great man. And he’s a good actor!
The other person I admire I have met personally, although I haven’t known him for long. His name is Derick! (no, the “!” is not a typo, he spells his name like that to set himself apart). I respect him for much of the same reasons as I respect Johnny Depp. Derick! Does this for his own benefit, possibly not in the same sense as Johnny Depp, but in essence the same. Although he doesn’t do things for his own happiness, he does things for himself in the sense of what will get him farther when he’s older and when he’s looking for a job. He wants to succeed, and he sacrifices things for that, and yet still manages to have a good social life.

12. How do you think people see you? Does the person you show to the public differ from the person you are on the inside? Explain. It is hard to say how people see me, seeing as though I can only see myself from my point of view. But from what people have said about me, I’m guessing I’m really passive, easy-going, fun, crazy, light-hearted, curious, and intelligent when I want to be. It is hard to answer the second part of this question, because many people see me differently. I have many different masks, the main part of me is the same, but many of the ways I act around certain people are different than others. There are only three people I can think of that know the true me, the me without any masks, covers, shields, or acts. Those are the only ones that know who I am on the inside. Everyone else I am different on the outside than I am on the inside.

The Community

13. Which hybrid house do you believe you are the most like? Make a case for and a case against your placement there. Ravendor. Ravendor’s strike me as those who will find out information with whatever means they must come by. They will strive to find that information and when they come to a conclusion, they will use it. They will make any excuse to use whatever information they have found, and they also stand up to anyone saying they know it’s right. Ravendors are the breakthrough scientists, the ones who go against what everyone believes, but still stands up for what they believe in because they know it is right. They don’t do it to accomplish their own ends, but to show everyone else around them that this is right, and I have the evidence to prove it. I will spend hours looking on the internet finding odd facts and trivia, only to find myself a couple hours later out to dinner going “Hey, guess what I found out?” “Watch this, it’s so interesting” “You know I found…”. However, I am not very school friendly. In fact, I get pretty mediocre grades. Although this doesn’t necessarily mean anything, it is something that is something of a cliché from Ravenclaws (I’m not agreeing with it however). But it is something to against my placement as a Ravendor.

14. Which hybrid house do you believe you are the least like? Make a case for and a case against your placement there. Slytherpuff. Slytherpuffs are those who will find something to believe in, something that helps them live day to day, and will stay loyal to that cause and the people in it for as long as they live. They are the protesters, and the non-profit organizations. Although I have been known to help some of these before, I either 1) become in-active within a short amount of time or 2) simply change my views all together. But, I am one of those people, only on the inside. I will support these things to myself, or to my close friends, but rarely will I step outside my personal boundaries and fight out in the open for them, at least not for long.
