Ugh, that totally sucks! I know it's a matter of pride, too, not just job security...thinking that other people would believe her. Double UGH. I don't understand how people who claim to be responsible adults--who own houses and cars and reproduce, even--can act like that. It drives me nuts.

Well, depending on how far you want to go, you have a right to complain about workplace harassment. You can talk to whomever is in charge of hiring that you are feeling harassed, you don't want to take it outside the organization but if she doesn't help stop it, then you may need to get a lawyer involved.

We had an asshat as a co-worker who was making our lives miserable. He has a negative, difficult personality in the first place but, unlike a four year old, never learned to control his mouth and his opinions. We got a new boss that could see that was going on and I finally went to her with an email that the asshat had written and said that if it didn't stop, we'd have to go to HR (we work in a big enough company that there's a real HR dept). She was very professional and (in private) we suspect she tromped him into the mud and stompted him dry.

Not quite the same option in a small business, but any charges of harassment have to be taken seriously.

That sucks!! No one should have to put up with shit like that. If you feel secure enough to do so, I'd give notice and find a job you can enjoy. I'm so sorry, bb, and I wish you the best!
