Well, I have a beverly hills guy (assuming it's not teh same one). He always does a fantastic job with my hair. He's kinda really pricey but that's the nature of beverly hills. I've been going to him for about 6 years and never had a bad cut. If you want the info lemme know.
If that doesn't appeal to you, then it helps to have a really clear description of what you want, bring in a picture or something, and don't pick anything complicated. A shag cut is great for stick straight hair (it's basically long layers). You can have a problem tho if you go somewhere so-so cause they'll just cut teh layers in lines across your hair and it won't look natural.
Hahahaha poor thing. I've cried at every single haircut til I turned about 18... not because they got any better, but because I learned more self-control.
The problem with stylists is that they always know whats "best for you" and tend to ignore requests. The salon I go to is in westwood, Sigal & Gevijanyan. Its usually a different stylist every time but they all respect what I want, and one lady even checked her progress with me periodically to make sure I was happy. Several friends of mine also go and love their haircuts.
Of course, there are times I've been and hated the results, but after going home and washing the hair again I realized it was actually a great job.
I have the curly hair. And before that the long hair. So i can't really help you on the cut issue....
But i've had some of my best haircuts at those super trendy sherman oaks/studio city places. They're relatively cheap, but the hairdressers are usually more young and hip and less prone to the "i know what you want better than you do" mentality of the older/more expensive stylists.
