Harry hadn’t seen it coming. How could he have? He’d been minding his own business, searching for a book amongst the stacks, when an arm shot out, grabbed him by his collar and hauled him deeper into the library. And then he kissed him. Soft lips covered his own, a hand ran through his shaggy black hair, and he was lost. They could have been there for an hour and he wouldn’t have noticed. But what he did notice was the fact that he wasn’t disturbed, that he wasn’t trying to pull away.

When they parted, their foreheads met, heavy, hot breath mingled between them, and grey eyes met green. “What-?”

Draco smirked, tipped his head back, and kissed Harry’s scar. It tingled. Harry, flushed in the face, lowered his eyes.

“Do I need a reason?”

Harry shook his head as he fell easily into Draco’s welcoming embrace. Taut arms wrapped around his back and just held him still. A clock chimed the hour somewhere at the front of the library, and then Harry realized what day it was.

“Thank you,” Harry choked out as flashes of green light flitted across his mind’s eye. A body tumbled from a tower, fire and smoke and curses, screaming and panic. He trembled in Draco’s arms as the events from a year ago replayed themselves like a bad film, jerky and halting.

He wasn’t sure how he’d managed to ignore it all day, perhaps he had refused to let himself remember, perhaps he’d just lost track, but he knew there was no one else he’d rather be with at that moment. Because Draco was the only one who knew, who had been there with him, watching in shock, feeling numb and unable to move.

“I’d never leave you alone,” Draco soothed, elegant fingers carding through Harry’s hair. “Not today.”

“Are they still-?”

“Holding the candlelight service tonight?”

“Yes?”

“Yes.”

Harry shivered again. “Go with me.”

“Harry?”

“Please, Draco,” Harry begged. The idea of standing by the tree alone filled him with insurmountable dread. “I don’t want to go alone.”

Draco cupped his cheek and ran a thumb over the smooth skin. His eyes softened as he spoke, “You won’t.”

Harry smiled weakly, and pulled away with great reluctance. “I have to go.”

“I know.”

“See you tonight?”

Harry held his breath.

“Yes.”

And let it out. He knew Draco wouldn’t go back on his promise, even if it would shatter his reputation, even if it meant questioning stares and hateful looks. That night would not be easy for any of the students of Hogwarts, but Harry left the library with a tiny smile on his face, knowing he wouldn’t have to face it alone.
