Burning Bushes

Tomorrow will be a few hours at the cabin for a picnic. S has a friend visiting from Finland whom I have never met. She was an exchange student a few years ago, was in NYC on business and took some days to come and visit S and her husband. I am looking forward to meeting her.

Before all of that, I need to go to the cemetery and leave flowers. I ( Read more... )

It looks okay so far; it has ben receiving natural rain for watering, and that is always a plus in this country.

Is a burning bush indigenous to SD? I don't recognize the name. I wonder if you put some heavy foil or tin around the trunk if that would discourage whatever the nibbler is.

No, it isn't and you know, I haven't a clue where it came from; I know several around this town have planted them, and my friend who suggested a burning bush knew about them, so why haven't I asked her? I will today if I happen to see her, and when I find out, I will let you know. Now I am curious about it, too.
So far, no culprit has been chewing on it; I have a lot of cottontails, which means I also have skunks, coons, coyotes, bobcats, rattlesnakes and just about everything that is hungry. Of course none of them would chew on it, unless it could be a pack rat. I am sure the first one was finished by the rabbits.
