Chapter 29. And You’re Only Telling Us Now…

Two figures dropped themselves on the couch with a deep sigh. After 2PM left for their schedules, Jay and Asuka went back to cleaning the dorm. You wouldn’t think candles and petals would leave a mess but it clearly did. The candle had melted and the wax had dried up on the floor. The rose petals left red stain marks on the wooden flooring which added to their workload.

The two brought out buckets of hot, soapy water filled with a floor cleaning agent (to which Jay commented, “It smells like oranges!”) and then towels to dry the floor.

“Well that didn’t take long,” Jay said to no one in particular.

“No, not at all, Jay.” It had taken them over 2 hours.

Jay threw a cushion at Asuka’s face. “Hey! We just cleaned the place.” She tried to keep a serious tone but failed. She sat up and retaliated with the same cushion.

“I don’t get how it took us so long to clean the place when you two didn’t even do anything,” Jay piled the cushions on the side before sitting down again after their short pillow fight.

“It was mostly what you guys did to the place. Candles, rose petals, really? So--”

“Cheesy?” Jay cut her off. Asuka turned to look at him. “What? You did choose the greasiest member so it was only fitting, yes?”

“For your information, he’s not as greasy as you all make him out to be,” she retorted.

“No?” he raised an eyebrow. Asuka shook her head.

“Nope. All the stuff he’s said and done have backfired.”

After a minute of silence the two burst into laughter.

“So… what did happen last night?”

The director had been picking on Taecyeon during the whole photo shoot. 2PM was shooting their album jackets for their comeback in less than a month. The photographer had to shoot more frames than he needed due to the lack of personality from Taecyeon.

“Okay. That’s a wrap guys!” the director called out to the boys.

“This was 2PM. Until then, thank you!” They bowed before walking over towards the benches and tables to pack up.

Taecyeon dropped himself on one of the benches and buried his head in his hands. He sensed a figure walk towards him and stop. He looked up to see Nichkhun holding up a bottle of water towards him. He gave a nod and took the bottle as Nichkhun took a seat next to him. He placed a hand on the younger male’s back and the two just sat there in silence.

Although Nichkhun knew there was something bothering his band mate he didn’t feel the need to dig for any details. He knew that Taecyeon would tell them sooner or later, he hoped sooner rather than later.

“You’re not gonna ask me what’s wrong?” Taecyeon queried in English.

“Nope. No need to,” Nichkhun replied simply.

Taecyeon gave the older a quizzical look. Nichkhun motioned his head to the left. Taecyeon turned his attention to see his dongsaengs making their way towards them.

“Taecyeon-hyung, what’s wrong with you today?” Chansung asked, one arm around Junho with the other hand holding a banana.

“Hyung, you usually have so much power in your expressions.” Junho commented.

“Yeah Taecyeon-hyungie,” Wooyoung nodded. “Omo, Suka didn’t break up with you did she?” his eyes widened, the other two followed suit.

“Noona wouldn’t do that, would she?”

“Channie, she’s not that brutal.”

“Maybe she did, Junho-yah. She is leaving you know.”

Nichkhun sat back and watched his dongsaengs argue over why Taecyeon was sad and whether or not Asuka broke his heart. He let out a small laugh which gained another confused look from Taecyeon.

“Yah! Keep it down guys. Everyone’s staring.” The members stopped and looked up to see Junsu walking towards them. “What’s with the noise anyway?”

“Junsu-hyung, you always pop out of nowhere.” Wooyoung stepped aside to let the older male into the circle they had somehow formed around Nichkhun and Taecyeon.

“We were just talking about why Taecyeon-hyung is so sad.”

“Chan-ah, I’m not that sad.” Taecyeon spoke up.

“Then why the long face?” Nichkhun finally said. Taecyeon shifted uncomfortably in his seat from the gazes he was gaining from his fellow members.

“She’s not leaving until tomorrow so you’ll still--”

“Actually she’s leaving tonight,” Taecyeon cut Junsu off.  The members’ eyes widened and mouths dropped.

“And you’re only telling us now?!” Junho’s voice began to rise.

“Well I only found out last night! She got a call back at the dorm.” Taecyeon retorted.

“Looks like she’s gonna leave without saying goodbye, again.” Nichkhun sighed.

“No, we won’t let that happen. Not this time.” The members turned their attention to Junsu. He had a sly smile playing against his lips.

“Junsu-hyung, what are you thinking?” Chansung wore a worried expression at the sudden ‘evil’ aura that had begun to emit from the eldest.

“Taecyeon-ah, what time’s Suka-yang’s flight?”

“Uhm 8:30pm, but she has to be their like four hours earlier. Why?” Taecyeon asked cautiously.

“I think we’ll make a little detour before going home tonight.” Junsu replied slyly, causing his band mates to take a step back from the eldest. And they thought Jay was sneaky.

Asuka’s luggage was packed neatly against the wall next to the front door of Jody’s place. Jay had come with her to help her pack her remaining items and check off that she had everything.

“You don’t have to come to the airport with me you know,” Asuka said while zipping up her black carry-on luggage.

“But I want to.” Jay pouted as he clicked the lock in place on her suitcase. “Why? Don’t you want me there, or do you rather I was Taec? Maybe I could grow twenty centimetres in the next five minutes.” Asuka laughed.

“Of course I want you there. I prefer you over Taec any day, Jaebeom-oppa,” she began to tease as she batted her eyelashes.

“Oh, I’m telling Taec you said that. ‘Yo, your girlfriend said she prefers me over you any day’. Ahh, I love a jealous Taec.” Asuka gave Jay a playful push as she chuckled.

“Who doesn’t, Jay?” she said in between her laughs.

“I still can’t believe you’re leaving so soon. We didn’t even get to catch up.” He tugged at the corner of her sleeve. Asuka rolled her eyes at the ‘cute’ display the so-called leader was putting on.

“Blame it on that airline lady and the HOD,” Asuka sighed as she stacked her carry-on on top of her luggage. She watched Jay walk over towards the window and look out.

“Ooh, taxi’s here. We should get going Suka.”

She nodded and stood up, pulling her carry-on over her shoulder and pulling out the handle to her luggage before a hand stopped her. “I’ll take this. I’ll feel useless otherwise.” Asuka simply shrugged as she walked out the door Jay held open.

Throughout the whole ride to the airport Asuka kept her gaze outside the window. Her eyes following whatever passed her. She felt a sudden wave emotion when the taxi stopped at the intersection, just outside the park she and Taecyeon had went to last night. She took a deep breath in and out, biting back any tears threatening to fall.

“You okay?” Jay tapped her arm lightly. She turned around to face him and gave a small smile.

“Thanks for coming with me,” her voice was quiet.

“Don’t worry about it. Taec’s my best friend and you’re Khun’s. I know we may not be the closest of friends but you’re part of the 2PM gang,” he shot her that contagious smile which always made her laugh.

“You’re all dorks,” she muttered.

“Hey, you picked the dorkiest one,” Jay rebutted.

“Yeah I get it. I picked the ‘black sheep’ of the bunch.”

“I wouldn’t go as far as to call Taec the black sheep,” Asuka raised an eyebrow in confusion. “He’s more like an ‘unpolished gem’ as someone had once put it,” Jay tried to say without laughing. He burst into giggles.

“You watched that interview didn’t you?” Asuka asked. Jay looked away, slightly embarrassed much to Asuka’s amusement. “Aww, Jaebeom-oppa really did keep up with his boys schedules.” She began to poke at his cheek, much to Jay’s annoyance.

“Hey, hey, hey! You make me sound like a stalker!”

“Aren’t you?” Jay playfully shoved Asuka towards the corner of the car. He noticed the smile return back to her face and felt quietly accomplished remembering what Taecyeon had told him before he and the others left for their schedules.
