Chapter List Summary:
There’s a fine line between life and death, but what happens when you find yourself trapped in-between the two? Where no one can see nor hear you. All you can do is see your other self, lying lifeless on that hospital bed, fighting for survival, not being able to do a thing.
Author's Note: Something that just came to mind while I was watching TV. Hope you readers like it ^^
Prologue:
Two weeks passed and he was still stuck in this sterile place. Not knowing when he’d be let out, Jay had made a few friends in his time, although none of them stuck around for more than 24 hours. He understood that it was because he was in a hospital that people wouldn’t stick around, but he had to be happy for them. At least they weren’t hanging in the balance of life and death as long as he was. They either passed on, or came back to life. Jay didn’t.
He had to admit he was scared out of his wits when the first guy he met (was he supposed to call them ghosts now?) explained to him their current situation. Jay felt intimidated talking to a military cadet, and one with a high ranking as well, but he seemed nice enough. It was only when the male told Jay his name, Lee Changmin, that Jay recognised him as a member of his old brother band. He had been caught in the crossfires of a battlefield; gunshot wound to the chest collapsing his lung, and had been put on life support. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it and disappeared, well, went “Beyond” as Jay had learned.
It was difficult grasping this concept of being “In-Between”. You weren’t dead but you weren’t exactly alive either. Humans couldn’t see you as you were pretty much invisible to them and you couldn’t see ghosts (he still wasn’t too sure if he was counted as one) as they were basically dead people. Simply put, it just meant that Jay’s life hung in the balance of life and death. Technically his body was still functioning but it was with the aid of a life support machine. Yeah it sucked and Jay was getting really lonely being here. Being stuck in a hospital was just the icing on the cake.
That was until he met with six other males, his former band mates or his boys as he liked to put it. He was ecstatic to say the least to see them again, but that happiness soon faded when he realised that the only reason they could see and communicate with each other was because the six of them were caught In-Between as well.
Jay always wished he could see 2PM again. Of course he missed them and wanted to be with them, except he never thought that their meeting would be this alarming. That the first and last time he would see them again would be at their deathbeds. It was certainly a wakeup call. Unfortunately, it was already too late.
