Title: Stars
Author: fear-alchemist
Fandom: Doctor Who
Summary: Sometimes, anyone can dream.
Disclaimer: I do not own DW. C'est simple.
Notes: ... This is kind of almost crack fic. But it's cute. And yes, I know that some planets do not have our constellations, but this was easier for me. Just nod your head.

Some nights, he looks to the sky and dreams. He knows, by his nature that he shouldn't dream at all. It was not in his kind to think such silly things. But, he couldn't help himself! He would look up at the countless constellations and lose himself in their tales. There were tales of inseparable twins, the hero Orion and even a chasing dog or bear in the sky, both on the hunt.

However, his dreams would end when his mother slipped into the room to pry him away from the window sill.

"You need your rest." she would whisper to him.

"Rest? But I want to watch the stars!"

He would try and try, but his mother would not let him look up at them. So, he was placed into bed. He closed his eyes and dreamt, sad.

The next night, when he went to peer out of his window, he noticed that he could not see the moon light. In fact, when he pulled back his curtains, there was no sky, only metal. His parents had blocked his window up! This made him even more sad, for he could not see the stars.

When he woke up the next day, he asked them, "Why can't I look at the stars?"

"Little boys are not made to dream. They're made to be, to do, to become."

The little boy did not understand.

"But they tell me stories!" he plead, desperation in his eyes.

"You are too old for stories."

"But--!"

"No buts."

He continued in silence to his room, where he lie on his bed, looking up at the ceiling. He realized, if he tried hard enough, he could imagine the sky-- imagine what it was like looking up at the stars. He could hear Orion, see the twins, laugh with the playing dog and run with the bears. But, when he closed his eyes, he knew.

Daleks were not meant for dreams.

It made him sad.

Because they never would be.
