Stuff and things
Yesterday was a strangely productive day for me. I went to the post office about noon-thirty, and after was going to go to the library but decided that since it was a nice day, I would go to Riverland park and then walk to the library from there (saves gas too). The park in the afternoon is wierd, there's always someone sitting in their car in the parking area more than likely getting high and there are mostly older men walking around. The walk for me takes 45-60 mins, but I was taking my time. The temps were in the low 60's I beleive, it got too warm for my jacket. When I was almost to Dodge Park, Mr. Allmacher passed me by, saying "Yo, yo Becky!" and giving the thumbs up. He said something else, but I didn't hear him because I was listening to music and he didn't stop to say it. I crossed the bridge over the fecal Clinton River, and there were some people feeding the ducks. I brought some bread to feed them myself, but I didn't want to when there were other people there. More ducks than usual, they were following people with the food around in a huge mass with fat squirrels in the mix. It was quite entertaining watching the mob of fowl follow the people with food.
Headed to the library. Successfully passed that blue sewage machine in the middle of the road without smelling anything. I mainly wanted to return the things that were due while I would be in Florida (Including E. Kool Aid Acid Test which I read one chapter and then things got bad again with my neuro issues so I couldn't read any more) and pick up a couple more docs to watch when I got back (my new thing I guess is renting docs from the library since it's free, visual learning is easier for me now than reading, and you can have them out 3 weeks instead of one...they have a generally good selection). The library has had a used book store for several years but I have never been in it. I wish I had sooner. I got some awesome books and videos...for $7.50 I got a copy of Zinn's A People's History... which I got for Chris, Lies Across America in perfect condition, a hardcover of The Walk West, sequel to A Walk Across America which I read earlier in the year (not so spectacular in the writing, but the content is good. I also recently got A Walk Across China), and then I got 7 VHS tapes: Waking Life, Dazed and Confused, W. F. Roger Rabbit, Clueless, some alternative music video promotion tape from 1995 (all these were 75 cents each), a Tiny Toon Adventures episode tape and an animated tape about Pegasus that looks cooler than it probably is. I'm glad I had a backpack with me, but I couldn't fit it all in there. It was ridiculous but I'm glad I know that this used book place has some quality items.
(this has nothing to do with events, but yesterday I decided to extend my recent adoption of the practice of not buying any clothes straight from the retailer to all items that I could reasonably get used, like books, movies and CDs. It's not a huge deal for me to do it since I hardly buy anything anyway, but it's good to get in the habit I suppose).
I rented 2 more docs and a CD, and I think the woman who checked them out doesn't like me or something. Last time I was there she checked the books out and she gave me a wierd look. I don't know, I just get a vibe from her. Maybe it's just me. Left the library, again didn't get a whif of sewage and went back to Dodge. This time I stopped and fed the ducks and geese the bread. There was this girl who was around 16 probably who went into the river barefoot and filled up a water bottle. I wasn't sure if I should tell her that she filled up her bottle with fecal bacteria, I would hope she had enough common sense to realize she was getting water from the area where dozens of ducks and geese spend their time, not to mention it's the Clinton River on top of that (yes, there is a large bacterial count from fecal matter in that water...it's not dirty in any other way but I would never even touch the water). Once I started throwing the bread, the fowl mob moved closer. I don't mind the Canadian geese, there were 4 of them that were close to me, one was an ornery jerk that chased the others away which was humorous to watch the offensive waddle. I was there for maybe 20 minutes, and in that time it got chillier and cloudy. I didn't plan on being out as long as I was. I was glad to be out, though. Walking back was annoying with the full pack and bag. It is awkward for me when passing people on the trail because it's a peculiar social situation, do you look at them, do you say hi, what if they don't want you to say hi because they think you are wierd... People are not as open as other places so it's hard to tell. I got back to my truck at almost 4. I was sore, but it was a good kind of sore.
One of the best things in the world are pre-hibernation squirrels. They are so fat, it's hillarious. Seeing them makes me happy. There were quite a few of them in the park and on the trail taking advantage of the warmth to collect some food. One thing I don't like so much is how unafraid of people a lot of the animals in the park are, especially the squirrels. Some of them will come right up to you for food. What bothers me the most is how unafraid some of the deer are. As I was leaving a group of 5 or so deer ran into the road, I had never seen a group like that in the park before. Deer are definately becoming a more prominent animal in the area. They have always been around but you rarely saw them. But, I know I see them more now because they have no where to go and hide.
Went home, chilled for a while, and decided that the time was right to go to Meijer. I went at about 6...usually I would wait until after 9 but I wanted to go and get it over with. I mainly had to get my mom a birthday present. It was okay, I think it is better if you avoid the grocery area of Meijer which i did. I got my mom a foot stool like she asked, but I thought I should get her something else small to give to her on her actual b-day since we will be in Florida. She likes garden gnomes and figured I could find some small gnome thing so I went to Jo-Ann and found a gnome ornament. It was half off too which was good, I can't beleive how expensive ornaments are compared to their quality. So I got done just about everything I needed to do before leaving, I just need to do laundry and pack.
Yesterday I had a wierd, vague deja vu a few times. It was really annoying. Today I woke up with a headache and it was around for a while but I think it's gone for the most part.
