33. Legacy (Sharing Knife #2) by Lois McMaster-Bujold.

34. Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters. First book in the Amelia Peabody mystery series. Recommended by a friend. Meh. It's okay... I have no serious objections. Slightly disappointed that Amelia wasn't a lesbian. The introduction of Evelyn and the way Amelia talks about her and how ( Read more... )

Hah, oh no, I'm sorry you didn't like Crocodile! That's one of my favorite mystery series (the first six books anyway). It's possible I like it in part because I never got bait-and-switched about Amelia/Evelyn (read it before I really even knew anything about gay people).

Also, Emerson is not "old." HARUMPH. :-P He just has a beard.

But...different strokes.

Further humorous reading. :-)

p.s. Oh, also...misogynist how? I don't remember that, but it's possible my memories of the first book are skewed by the later books. Or something.

Ok, I take back the old. As for misogynist: he definitely makes some misogynist remarks, but gets better as grows to like Amelia. Possibly he improves even more with time.

However, I don't like Slap-Slap-Kiss relationships, so ... yeah.

Yeah, Slap-Slap-Kiss is pretty icky. Agree there.

Now that I think about it, I think I recall Emerson saying derogatory things about "airheaded females" and whatnot (and assuming Amelia was part of that stereotype). I think I didn't remember it at first, though, because pretty much the ENTIRE SERIES is Amelia fighting that kind of thing directly. ;-)

(But I still get that you don't really dig it, and that's okay! Just wanted to unpack a bit, see another view.)
