abstinence?... why?

All I'm saying is that my faith has dwindled because we live in a gluttonous society filled with people who use fornication for other reasons rather than reproduction. Yes. Lust (prior to commitment) is one of the 7 deadly sins. Yes. Gluttony is one of the 7 deadly sins. My question is: If God is so omnipotent and created us in the same light, how ( Read more... )

Because its the devil that is making us want/act out these sins.

if God is perfect don't you think he/she could do something about that temptation or not make us so succeptible to it

Ah, you mean why doesn't God strip you of your free will so you don't have a choice. I dunno. I know I don't buy into this "We just can't help ourselves" stuff. I mean, Megan, you know me, and I've failed at this many of times and am a pretty lousy human being quite often, but I still know what is right and wrong, and I see people that are able to remain stedfast and can make the choice of doing the right thing over their own destructive desires. You don't have to read my big comment in this post if you don't want too, because I know how much this religous talk can divide all of us, but if we accept the fact that we have our own free will to choose right and wrong, and what we want, then you can't blame God for not twisting our arms and making us choose right, because then we didn't really choose at all. Just like you can't blame God for the way people live their lives in a destructive fashion, when they choose to live in a Godless vacuum. If you live your life not acknowleding God at all, then what are you really asking for yourself ( ... )

It's kinda like...
Running a red light is really easy to do.
It can be deadly to do it.
If you're not paying attention, you will do it, and easily.

The point, is keep your focus where it should be, don't take your eyes off of God, and your eyes won't go anywhere else. It won't be easy to do, if your heart is where it should be. That doesn't mean you won't be tempted to do it, or it would be impossible to do it, it just means if your where you're supposed to be, if your focus is on God, then things that aren't of God, won't hinder you.

If your focus is where it should be when you are driving, you won't run a red light and die.

the end <3

I have a question for you paul. more a comment actually. you say that sex is only for reproduction and that is why you are waiting until you get married. but how you say it then after you had all the kids you want are you just going to stop having sex with your wife. and what if your wife cant have children will you never have sex. what if you dont want to have children to you are married a few years...are you suppose to wait until then even if you are married. i mean i support what you are saying, but i dont believe sex is suppose to be for reproduction only. i have so much more to say but i dont think any of it is right to say right now.

don't you think pregnancy is a hell of a price to pay for enjoying yourself?

Hello Paul. This is Gabe. Here is what I think. People are very good at being selective Christians. They are (very frequently however I am not saying all the time) very quick to condemn people of actions and right away they do something equally "bad". What I mean by this is that they claim to be wonderful people and good "Catholics" or "Christians", yet, they will do drink and have sex with people for gratuitous reasons. I admire your perseverance by staying as true to your faith as possible. I am frequently labeled an atheist due to the fact that I don't practice Christianity. However, I am a Christian, I just don't believe that if I'm going to be open to having sex and drink like a fish all the time that I should bother being only partly Christian. If it were that easy everyone would be practicing some faith. So better than being a hypocrite I remain aware that I am not a good human being.
