They're getting pretty close to done on the back porch, I think. The front porch they've replaced the outer posts and got the fascia on. They still need to replace the decking, and there's one rafter in the middle that has some rot damage. Weather is still looking threatening, but no rain so far. Nice that's it's cool today, though I kind of wish it weren't raining (here. It can rain all it wants in the Lake Travis watershed.) What I think I want is a wall chimney range hood, either the one I bought at Sears on Thursday but have not actually taken delivery of yet or the somewhat cheaper model I actually meant to buy. Just mentioning in another little corner of the internet that today marks the 40th anniversary of the day Robin Knox-Johnston and Suhaili sailed into Falmouth after their journey around the world without touching land (well, I believe they ran aground once).

Four quarts of ice cream (three Ben & Jerry's, one Blue Bell), a bottle of cough syrup, two boxes of Peeps. One wonders. A strange seasonal party? A cold and poor impulse control? Not as mysterious as the avocado and the bottle of bleach, but still.

This is a good thing, because if we'd come off the water after three I wouldn't have been able to drive home. As it is, by the time we got the boat put away it was 4:30 or so and they served dinner about five. Mixed, starting off heavy and going light later on, but not to the point of being really excruciating. We had a good start in the third ( Read more... )

It hasn't closed completely in some years, and the wind grabbed it sometime this morning and blew it open so hard the piece of frame the spring mounts to ripped right in two.
