SAMUS ARAN
Personality:
A small premise: I never played Metroid: other M and I'm not going to anytime soon. She's always been my favorite and manliest Nintendo character but it seems the last game messed up with fan's idea of Samus too much... completely messing up her personality it seems. Transforming her into a whining princess who needs her man's help to fight monsters. Just... no?
And, being the last game in Metroid's timeline I'll just pretend it still has to happen, taking her right before it. My application isn't based on her Other M personality at all, when I'll play it, and it'll not being too soon, I'll eventually plan a canon update but as far as I heard and saw... probably not.
Her personality, even if Samus is all Metroid games's main character, isn't very explored during the games every player tends to have his headcanon: we know she's psychologically very strong and ready to do everything she can to reach her goals (Every job she accepts is serious business, she never gives up until she completes her missions or does whatever she decides to do.).
If in danger Samus'll never act as a innocent damsell in distress but will probably try to save the day by herself (even because, despite being often supported by other characters, she always had to do everything alone.), she's extremely curious too and ready to learn everything she can too while lacking almost completely of proper social skills.
It's hinted but never properly stated she has a sweet spot for cute things. But it'd be hard to see her admitting it.
Her interactions with the others'll be a little problem since she's used to work alone. And to spend most of her time alone in the spaceship. And the few times she's with people it's generally for formal military reasons.
She'll not probably be a very talkative person and she'll eventually, probably, give evasive or sarcastic answers but... in the end she'll like being with someone. After spending some time with her, when Samus'll eventually decide to open up with someone, it'll probably being possible to notice how kind she can be.
If you're trying to befriend her it'll be difficult since she'll be somehow diffident at first even if she'll not show it too much and she's not used to have always the same people around more than the necessary: allies? Yes, of course. Brothers in arms? A lot and she probably remembers all their names, but proper friends is something she still has to find.
Yes, Samus has a lot of issues she needs to work out but she's- well, there's still always hope, isn't it?
In Metroid prime: Echoes, it's even shown how she doesn't tend to consider dangerous all the creatures she see just at the first sight even if she's surrounded by hostile creatures. When Samus meets
U-mos, even if he could be a potential danger, she waits until he talks.
To say it in few words she's not going to attack any kind of weird creature unless she knows for sure it's going to attack her. Or unless it's someone she hates like a... space pirate, for example?
How she eventually spends her free time? What is that 'free time' you're talking about? Anyway probably looking for a way out? Or training when she'll realize she suddenly become weaker.
Looking at the deeper traits of her personality we can take a look at her two biggest weak spots...
We know for sure she suffers of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: whenever she meets Ridley, the one who led the space pirates during her colony's destruction and who killed her mother in front of her eyes, she's generally terrified. And even if often she overcomes her fears, following the game's timeline we can suppose she just manages to repress her fear when really needed but keeps suffering of it.
Another weak point of her is the whole story about her 'young son': At the end of Metroid II the last Metroid egg hatches in front of her and the newborn creature starts following her, like she's his little mom .
After various events, in Super Metroid her Baby is kidnapped and used to various expetiments: Samus fights to find him but when they meet again Baby's a big metroid who tries to kill her, just to recognize her at the last moment and running away. Still trying to save the situation she faces the Brain Mother and almost dies.
Baby saves her and in the process he's killed by the Brain Mother in front of Samus. The woman lost her family twice and he was the closes creature she had as a son and the whole Other M is about how deeply it hurt her: Samus'll be probably really weak against visions, hallucinations and eventual other jokes Linda could do about her Baby or Ridley.
She may be able to repress her fear or feelings whenever it's necessary but 'using them' may take her guard down.
Samus's from a very evolute universe and she's used to deal with alien technology all the time and spends most of her time traveling alone with a space ship or exploring ruins of extremely evoluted civilizations that disappeared for various reasons: probably she'll try to hack Linda or use her knowledges to find a way out and, despite her eventual failures, will probably keep thinking the level of technology in the asylum is quite primitive.
She's used to wear her power suit most of the time and she seems quite comfortable with it, using normal clothes only when she's in her bottle ship but not always or, still in her only 'safe place', just going around with her underwear only. She'll not being comfortable with 'normal' clothes.
Powers:
She obtained so many powers during the series it'd be difficult to mention them all...
It'd take hours everything down all the powers she obtained and lost during the time and losing completely her powers it's something... canon too, it happens almost in every metroid game right after the start and you go around collecting the special power up everytime.
-
Morph Ball form: Rolling around in a sphere form. It's generally smaller than how she'd do just curling and, looking carefully, it's possible notice how she turns into some kind of energy form inside of it. In this form she can use energy bombs too.
-
Power Beam: it's generally a weak weapon but it may gain more power and more abilities. Listing all the power up'd really take a lot of time so... skipping it for the moment? And at the power beam she can attach even her
missile launcher Talking about normal, human abilities, even considering the chozo blood she has now inside of her, we may say she's ways stronger than a common human: great agility, greath strenght, and, despite being generally considered an 'action girl' she's very smart too... but I'd rather having her physical abilities being cut off.
As a player I mean, she's canonically stronger than a normal human but... I prefere to leave her with a normal, not-so-trained body instead of playing a super athlete.
Uhm... a power she could mantain? Turning in her
Sphere form? Just to roll around without specific powers, especiallly to enter in narrow places she wouldn't able 'visit' in her normal size? No bombs or anything else.
Appearance:
With her special Armor -
With her Zero Suit It may not seem so from the pictures but she's really, really tall for a woman (1.90m (6'3'')), maybe due to Chozo's blood infusions.

The three magic words are: Oh, yes, I have to check again. Wait... urr... sissy sheep and black

When Samus managed to open her eyes, after escaping from Zebes and being... was she rescued? Yes, probably she was even because she was seriously injuried and couldn't remember well but the people who were moving around her were almost certainly doctors. Or scientists.
Either options weren't interesting enough to get her attention and make her wonder what was going on, probably because in the IV therapy there was some kind of sleeping drug and the only important thing was closing her eyes again and get some rest.
When Samus opened her eyes again, feeling almost like she blinked her eyes, the scenario was completely different and the pain was totally gone, like all her wounds.
"..."
Without a word she sit on the bed, looking around and studying the situation: her power suit was gone, like her weapons and gadgets, and someone dressed her up with clothes she didn't wear for a very long time: the place itself wasnt apparently hostile and whoever took care of her certainly did a great job leaving only small scars even where there were large wounds before... there was no reason to be nervous but she couldn't help it.
Samus got up and tried to open the door and, after checking in the room after wondering if kicking down the door could be a good option or not, she found the key to open it: well, it meant she wasn't a prisonner... and the door was locked why? To protect her from something? Being diffident saved her more than once, that's why she opened the door with extreme cautious and sneaked away in silence trying to figure out where she was and why no one seemed to be around.
Oh, wait, was she hearing a voice?
Cautiously she started walking, heading toward the feeble sound she could hear, studying the building around her: even if she wasn't visiting ruins of old civilization it had some kind of old-looking fashion and... well, it was almost in a old Earth Colony's style. Even if she spent most of her time distant from that kind of places it still was surprisingly familiar: not so much to be a place she could ever call 'home' again but enough to give her a bitterweet feeling of melancholy. But she had no time to think about it.
Even if she hoped to have the possibility to rest for a while after the last, sad events she couldn't complain or being weak yet and the most important thing was having answers as soon as she could.

[Audio - private while registering her diary]
Fifteenth day after my arrival, no relevant events to remember. Comparing my memories with the previous registrations I'd dare to say no one is actually messing up with our minds.
Another attempt to hack 'Linda' failed, I start wondering if the technology level is so low as it seems.
I don't have anything important to record today but I wonder... we all arrived here without a valid reason and we don't have enough informations to elaborate any kind of strategy to get out while, at the same time, random and unexpected things seems to happen...
I can't really figure out what's going on but I can't stop wondering if it's really some kind of dream or not. Or if I really survived the fight with Mother Brain and escaped Ze- it's not like thiking too much'll help me, right? Tomorrow I'll try to explore a new area, we'll see if I can find something interesting or not.
Whoever built this place didn't left too many clues and, certainly, without my scan visor it's hard to examinate things. *sighs* I miss my equipment, I could certainly do a better work here if I only had proper tools..
About the other guests... they've all a friendly attitude, more or less, and even if it was awkward at first, I'm slowly getting used at the idea of sharing the place where I stay with other people even if we're not here to work together..
It's not so bad... and since it seems possible meeting people and creatures from the past I wonder if I...
*coughs*
Aran Samus, the fifteenth registrations ends here.
