So I want to learn how to write code. I'm going to teach myself. I've already started to read up on HTML and I've bought a book about it. <--See, I even used it. =]

So what's next? I made a poll:

Poll Learning to write code...If you think I should learn something else, please comment. If you have any suggestions for books or websites, please comment. If you have anything ( Read more... )

HTML is "markupnot "code." You'll sound cooler if you know that.

I have a zillion books on html, dhtml, css, javascript, cgi, perl, unix, etc. If you want to borrow one, let me know.

Yes, I would very much like to borrow a book or two.

Thanks for the advice. =]

I agree with the previous commenter that HTML shouldn't count as a programming language ( ... )

Since I've been asking around (vocally) I've heard C several times already. That's why I tried to edit it to say "C(++?)" It's looking like the winner so far. I'll check the poll results at this week's end. I appreciate all your other comments though. It really is nice to find out how much and what I don't know.

I agree that C++ is not good for beginners. Seriously.

Yes, I realize that. That's why I tried to indicate an edit of "C(++?)" in the post.

PS. Who goes there?
