A Question: In the thingers I'm reading right now for my lit review, it says that girls have a stereotype of doing worse at computers than guys. it also says that there is a tendancy for teachers to pay more attention to guys and there computer problems than to girls. when i was in school...computers were a relatively new thing, and on top of ( Read more... )

Girls Have The Edge In New Technologies.

I was one of the best computer students in my schools, tied with two dudes (friends of mine, so...geeks of a feather, I guess). The teachers basically left us alone. That said, the worst students in my comp sci class were all girls and the teacher basically ignored them, but--that was my second teacher who basically ignored all of us and rambled on about how much he missed Greece rather than teaching us anything.

So: girls kick ass at tech, my teachers were either incredibly awesome or incredibly incompetent and therefore do not really figure well into stats, and I have no idea.

I've heard there is a fair bit of research stating that girls get the fuzzy end of the lollipop on a lot of hard sciences (math, science, etc.) and it's pulled out everytime someone want to introduce seperate classes for each gender, or a new cirriculuum that appeals to how girls learn.

Personally, I've always had teachers who hated their job and neglected us all fairly equally. I can think of only one exception: a gym teacher who got drafted into teaching English and Math and ignored and/or berated the girls for basically existing and breathing.
