wow, it's... me

I consistently check this thing and browse through everyone's stuff, but I never post anything myself. I suppose it's because I left the community such a long time ago that I no longer feel connected, but every time I surf LJ I feel that little pang of nostalgia. Many times I will notice my thoughts drifting to Sluggy; I can't stand the comic these ( Read more... )

Nail on the head, buddy. Sluggy.net circa 2003-2005 was the only online community I've ever felt a real attachment to, and god, do I miss the good old days.

Nice to know you're still alive.

Oh yes, quite alive and well. I suppose I should make a new post with a giant update.

*nod* I've made so many friends both online and off due to those years.

I miss 'em. :(

No kidding man. It's hard to think about those times and all the good friends I don't talk to anymore.

There are still a few of us around. The community's not the same (communities never stay the same, neither do we for that matter), but you know, I don't even bother with anything except General Chat and POOP these days. I guess I still get what I'm looking for there, for the moment.

Every time I stop by the boards and think about posting, I realize how detached I am. I do occasionally post, but no one even knows who I am. :(

As tends to happen when you disappear for a while, I've found. I recently discovered an old community of mine from years back. It's full of young people who've been there for at least a year who'd never heard of me. The entire community had shifted to accomodate all the new people.

Sluggy.net's the same thing, except I got to see it happen, as old members disappeared and new ones took their place. And I got to see old members come back, then disappear again, and new members become old members... It makes for very interesting viewing if you hang around long enough. I guess I'm more impressed that the Sluggy.net has survived it all. It's still the community I joined, even if it's changed almost beyond all recognition. No breaks, no big exoduses, it's still there, just evolved.

Sorry, I'm being all soapboxy on your LJ. My apologies! *cleans up*

No apology needed! You put into words exactly what I've felt many times before. See, I'm not good with change, especially when it leads to something I dislike in any way. The community grew, and at least for me, it lost its close-knit feeling. It became too rule-driven and regimented, but it HAD to be... there was no way it couldn't be.

I should drop by sometime... see if I can still get into the secret RP forum. :)

Those were darned fun times, weren't they? A shame it all kind of fell apart.

Good to know you're still alive, though.

Yeah. What is strange is wonderful. I can't recall if I ever specified, but it's pronounced "an rud (like "ruddy") is (like "hiss") anow is (as before) oontock". Just so you know.

Yeah, that was pretty great. Some great conversation and a lot of fun...
Man, that was back in High School. Everything about High School feels so long ago now. I should... probably keep in better contact with some of the people I met there (by which I mean both High School and Sluggy.net)

The community's not the same anymore but... You know, a lot of us aren't really that into Sluggy these days, but so many people still stick around just for the RP boards. It's kinda funny.
I'm still pushing Zelda along inch by inch. I think we're finally getting to more than a day per year again.

...'s Dot still doing exquisite corpses over in WGARS?

Lol yea, Zeldas still moving at least, but Dot's corpse one have been a long dead one for a pretty long time. Zelda's is whats keeping me on the board.

But other than that, I have no interest for the rest of the boards.
