The first thing one would notice about Nidalee is her odd choice of clothing. All she wears is rudimentary skins and furs, hastily stitched to make some attempt at clothes and boots. It covers the important bits (though how well is up for debate) and keeps her protected from the elements better than nothing. It's about what you'd expect a wild person to throw together in mimicry of clothing. The completing pieces of her attire are simple pieces of jewellery made from the teeth of predators. Larger teeth adorn her hips as a belt, smaller teeth circle her neck like a menacing choker, and two large canines hang from her ears.

All along her body are stripes of white spikes. They cover her from head to toe, and as the marks are faded in most of her extra skins, it's assumable they're painted on as some sort of tribal mark or decoration. Also of note, though not as immediate, is the small green gem that lays on her forehead.

Her basic physical build is extremely lean and athletic, having been taken in and raised by wild cats undoubtedly keeping her body fit. Her skin is bronze, her eyes an unnatural glimmering gold, and she keeps her long, untamed brown hair swept back and out of the way in a ponytail.

Her voice is accented with a rough, rumbling purr, the tone adding an exotic and wild tinge to her words.

That's only half the story, of course.

In her cougar form, she's a large, muscular, golden cat with a ruff of brown fur ringing around her neck and paws, and her tail tapering to end in the same brown. Her tooth necklace and the gem on her forehead remain unchanged.

Personality - You can take the cat out of the jungle, but you can't take the jungle out of the cat. Nidalee is a wild animal, through-and-through. While she retained some of her humanity from whatever memories of her life before she holds on to, even in her human form Nidalee is more cat than person. She'd lived most of her life in the wild, living and learning alongside cougars and only returned to humanity after helping her adopted family kill a squad of Noxian encroachers. As such, she's extremely uninhibited.

She makes attempts at humanity, and even has some desire to rejoin it but it's a difficult and long rehabilitation for her. Her ulterior motive for rejoining is to protect her adopted homeland, but her readiness to do so shows there might be hints of curiosity in this cat.

That's not to say she's a brute, but she isn't exactly a polite dinner guest either. She has little problem with killing people (even before joining the League where, when summoned to the battlefield, your opponents have the habit of respawning) but she won't do so wantonly.

Underneath it all though, Nidalee is one of the first allies you'd want to have, and the last enemies you'd want to make. She's fiercely protective and even loyal, so to find a friend in Nidalee is to find your very own guarddogcougar.

Because of her past, Nidalee is innately suspicious of everyone and everything. Her immediate reaction to an unknown force is to hide and watch. If the object of interest does not strike her as "prey," she'll continue observing. If it doesn't strike her as an immediate threat either, she'll weigh her risks. If the object is an animal? She will continue watching, get a feel for its behaviour and what niche it falls into. Is it a group animal, territorial, predator, grazer? If the animal is human (or, considering her world; sentient) she will wait and gauge intent. Why has this person come to her territory? Do they have shelter set up nearby? Are they merely passing through? Do they wish to observe or are their intentions more destructive?

Before her self-inflicted reintroduction to society, she would leave the harmless ones alone. If they were not there to cause trouble, it was a waste of time and energy to pursue them. Certainly, it would be fun (and she wouldn't be above destroying a settlement while the owner is away for that reason) but it would garner unwanted attention. If they did have malicious intent (poaching her pride or woodcutting), she would step in. "Stepping in" before civilisation meaning, of course, mauling them.

Now that she is vying for reintroduction to civility she is less inclined to random and unannounced maulings outside of the battlefields, and more inclined to make herself known instead of silently stalking. This does not mean that she will loudly announce her presence, just that she will not hide from people.

She inherently distrusts everyone, opting to have them prove themselves to her which is not an easy task. This is a task she doesn't make easy. In her aloofness, she places herself up on a pedestal upon which she judges everyone. As a cat's judgement is often harsh and their nature very standoffish it's easy to assume she's just not interested in liking anyone at all. While this isn't necessarily true, she is extremely picky about who she deems trustworthy. Anything more intimate than a mutual understanding and respect comes close to acceptance to her pride, which she has very strenuous standards for.

Even if she does like you, you aren't exempt from catty mood swings or her unpredictable nature. It's a different beast, but a beast nonetheless. One moment she could seem enamoured with you and the next be giving you the cold shoulder. In the blink of an eye she can flip from civil politeness to metaphorically tearing your throat out, and still pin you in the category of 'likeable.' That's not even touching upon playing; Where she's from, tackling, biting, and swatting are all completely acceptable ways to play and the only excuse to hold back is if you're dealing with cubs.

In her mind there is really no "good" or "evil." All that exists is a natural order of things that shouldn't be disrupted. What is right to her is that birds fly, fish swim, and she and her pride hunt. What is wrong to her is mindless destruction and death without reason; Keeping in mind of course that cat reasoning for killing ranges from food, defence, and the fun of it.

Her driving force is that natural order. While a civilised person may react to change with a shrug and going about their life, Nidalee will find it distressing and disorienting until something else catches her attention. Catching her attention isn't difficult to accomplish, however. In the jungle, hyper-focusing can get you killed, so she's used to vaguely focusing multiple things at a time and having to switch her main pursuit.

For the time being, her main pursuit is the protection of her homelands. She rejoined society for the main purpose of protecting the jungles that took her parents and gave her new life, and her reason for joining the League is the same. She feels strongly for this cause, and will fight tooth and nail to make her stance known and accomplish that goal.

History - LoL Lore.txt

The lore gives a very basic overview of Nidalee's story. there are a few gaps that need filling in, however.

headcanon -> canonpoint It's never explained how Nidalee is able to speak at a level higher than a child's; It should be impossible or difficult for someone in her situation to be able to speak. She was lost to the jungle at a young age (no older than 5) and, while a fairly bright and curious child, had no way to understand high-level language. It only follows that she'd been able to observe others who'd found themselves in the Kumungu Jungle. Some were merely curious explorers who always wound up succumbing to the perils of nature. Others were scouts, soldiers of Noxus or Demacia trying to find a clever way to slip into the others's city-state for an attack only to find certain doom. More still were hopeful treasure hunters like her parents, men and women drawn to the jungle by the great tales of riches hidden within its dangerous heart. All of them were watched by the ever curious Nidalee. her young mind hung onto every word they said, everything they did, every action they made. She observed some using weaponry and tried her hand at crafting some for herself. She saw traps being used and quickly learned to make and use them herself.

She absorbed every drop of knowledge she could be afforded, but always from a distance, hidden in the shadows. She never directly interfered, as she had no reason to. She only went in to examine what they'd left behind. Curious, but cautious.

The only time she made direct contact was the day she decided to rejoin 'civilization,' when Noxian loggers had begun to tear into her homelands. She'd slain them in a confused attempt to protect everything she knew and thought the only way to prevent it from continuing was to leave for the cities to represent Kumungu herself. Her prowess and abilities quickly gained her respect, and throughout the city-states there were whispers of the ferocious 'bestial huntress' who'd slain an entire Noxian logging crew. As rumours do, the numbers fluxuated, facts skewed, and fiction became more believed than the reality. It was apparent she would never find standing merely speaking for her cause, and her elevated reputation as a vicious beast-mistress found her in the privelaged position of being of interest to the League of Legends. The fact that she had a cause the uphold all but sealed her entry. She, as any other champion, would fight in the name of her land.

Skills/Abilities/Powers - Like all champions who enter the Fields of Justice, Nidalee has a set of skills she uses in battle, which all have a set 'cool-down' period. Like most, they cost mana to cast.

Nidalee's abilities are:
The ability to move quicker when she's hidden in the brush
Proficiency with javelins
Ability to craft and place traps
The ability to call upon and channel the spirit of the cougar to heal wounds and increase strength and speed, be they her own or an ally's
The ability to change into a cougar and back; This includes all the abilities she gets as a cougar which are the basic pouncing, clawing, biting and one 'special' one, where she takes an enemy by the throat and shakes them violently, going for the kill.

As she was raised in the jungles by wildcats, she is also very proficient at wilderness survival, including things like hunting and climbing. She has innate cat-like reflexes and agility.

She's also not above chasing birds and mice around and is easily distracted by certain things (See: Laser pointers, dangly string)

Power Restrictions - Javelins: I'm assuming any she has on her person will be taken away. She *can* craft new ones, but she'd need the materials first. Her maximum throw distance (with decreasing accuracy as the distance increases) is 30 meters.
Traps: She's not coming in with any, but she has the knowledge and ability to make them out of nothing more than rope/vines and branches. She'll only be able to make as many as she has resource for, but I don't think the number should be limited. She won't be spamming traps. Due to the nature of the traps, they'll only last for one use or for a week if they aren't triggered.
Primal Surge (Healing): She can only heal minor wounds; Scrapes, small cuts, bruises. It isn't an instant heal but a speeding up of the natural process, so such wounds will be recovered from quicker. Instead of making the target stronger/faster, it gives them an adrenaline boost, relieving some pain and giving them a temporary burst of energy. She cannot use this ability infinitely, and will end up sapping her own energies if she tries to.
Aspect of the Cougar: The fun one. She can change between forms at will, but rapid-fire changing will come with consequences. A single shift between forms will require a brief breather, enough to catch the air in her changed lungs and get the blood circulating correctly through her newly human or cougar heart. Changing multiple times in a short period of time (less than 1-2 hours between shifts) will give her extreme nausea and she'll be more-or-less incapacitated, like a sick animal.

I see no reason to limit her abilities as a cougar, since they are all fairly natural abilities for a large cat. There's no reason she can't be restricted from randomly mauling people in other ways, of course.

Job - Animal Tamer. Also, one of the animals. Rather amazing finale for the trainer to suddenly turn into a cougar, isn't it?

Mark Location - Under her right eye, where one of her painted markings would normally be. This translates to her cougar form, as well.

Samples
First Person Sample (Communicator, Bulletin, or Mirror) - [Broadcast, loudly, is the sharp sound of teeth-on-metal. It sounds as if someone, or thing, is trying to chew their cuff off. Between the grating crunches as scrapes, it's easy to hear a low, rumbling growl.

And then a sudden, frustrated roar erupts loudly. Was that a hint of sorrow behind the beast's howls?

Either way, it seems the whatever-it-is has given up for the moment. There's the soft FLOP of a large animal laying down and the feed goes quiet. Quiet, but not off; You can still hear the animal's heavy breathing through the device.]

Third Person Sample (Log) - The huntress took a sharp inhale, breathing in the scent of the battlefield. Summoner's Rift, summer. It was a place she'd been to many times, an area she'd known well enough to trounce through blindfolded. Still, it never grew old for her. For as long as she'd been in the League, and as many times as she'd been summoned, it'd never grow old. The visceral thrill of the battle, the heat of the hunt was a warm joy she fondly remembered from her youth and it only became more fun when the consequences were removed from the game.

With a toothy grin, she hastily snatched her summoner's selected items from the shopkeeper, not knowing or caring what they did. She trusted the summoner, and more importantly she trusted her instincts. The ring and vial of red she was handed felt appropriate enough in her hands and it was indeed a familiar beginning combination. Sliding the ring on and pocketing the potion, she glanced about her teammates for a brief moment. Only to see who they were. It looked like... Poppy, Taric, Vladimir, and Udyr. Seemed as if their bases were covered. Before anyone else could say anything or even get their items bought, Nidalee was gone. She'd gotten command to go to the top lane. Solo. More of them than me. I like a challenge. She growled to herself in excitement and began bounding through the brush, past her turret, one... Two... And finally making herself scarce in the brush.

Two golden eyes peered out from the tall grass, glinting with anticipation as they searched for her opponents. They wouldn't know what hit them.

Any Other Details We Should Know - As she hasn't had any formal education, she is unable to read or write. It's really a miricle she can talk, honestly.

PS: the Nashahago thing isn't canon, just creepy as all hell.
