Anyone had any experience with the high fevers. We are down in aRGentina again and since we've been here from Aug 1st, Maya has been sick 3 times. First she had a high fever and vomiting 3 days ( a saturday) after we arrived. We went to the emergency room. They prescribed their version of pedialyte ( Read more... )

I'm sorry, it's hard to see your little one so sick, and worse when you're not at home!

I don't have much advice for you, but when Blue had a high fever and we were out of town we alternated between acetaminophen one time and ibuprofen the next (every 4-6 hours) and it seemed to keep the fever down better than just sticking with one. My friend is an NICU nurse and she said that that's what they do for babies in the NICU sometimes, so I decided there was no harm in mixing it up.

The rash sounds viral to me, but the white specks in the throat sound more bacterial... who knows. I'd keep a close eye on the throat if I were you. When are you coming back?

I hope she feels better soon!

I think it's silly the doc won't give her antibiotics for strep. Poor baby. Babies may not get it as often as older kids, but they do get it. I've had strep throat myself so many times I can tell you it's just torture, especially when trying to eat. I remember surviving on strawberry popsicles just to get something in me.

i'm so sorry that maya isn't feeling well.

i've dealt with high fevers when it comes to my son too - actually, the highest he had was 105.5! but he was not legtharic or sleepy so the doctors didn't worry too much about him. the thing we found most helpful when he gets high fevers is to give him a lukewarm bath - we let him sit and play in there for 20 minutes and it really does cool him off. also we double up on children's tylenol and motrin and that helps to bring the fever down.

i hope that things get better soon!

Also, couldn't they do a culture just to make sure it's not strep?

The first thing you described from a few weeks ago sounds like one of the "typical" childhood diseases - possibly Fifth Disease. It's not harmful to her - more worrisome is if she was around a pregnant woman at the time (but chances are the mama had it as a child because it's common... so not a big concern ( ... )
