Well that's just strange that we both thought of the same name!

Nice to meet you! I'm a SAHM, and while my cooking can be hit or miss, I'm a knitter too! Cleaning... eh. ;)

Mom is the next best thing if your hubby can't be there. Kudos for you two trying to keep it positive. I can't imagine how heartbroken he must be to miss it all!

I think I'm becomming a better cook now that I'm pregnant! All I want to do is make cookies, pancakes, pies, bread, and other baked goods. I don't really want to eat it all; I just want to make it. *shakes head* Knitting and other needleworks are my favorite hobbies! It's killing me that I don't know the sex of the baby yet, because I have hats and booties I need to be making.

Welcome, and congratulations! Something you might want to consider is to get tape recordings of Daddy's voice and play them while you're pregnant (I believe our babies can hear now) and after your baby is born. That way, when your husband comes home, the peanut will recognize his voice already. It would probably make the transition smoother because your husband will probably want to smother that baby with love and if his voice is familiar your baby is less likely to freak out. Good luck!

We're actually gunna take that one step further! He's here for the pregnancy, but he'll be going on a looong deployment 3 weeks before I'm due. Before he leaves, we're going to make a DVD of his face just saying simple and soothing things. I plan on playing this every day so that when we go see him off the ship, the baby will (hopefully) be, "Oh! You're that guy from TV! I know you!" and not cry at a stranger. After watching several baby shows, they learn facial and vocal recognition fairly quick, so I'd like to help the "getting to know you" transition for them both move along quicker.

I think that's a great idea! I have a book called Chicken Soup for the Military Wife's Soul (My husband's a Marine... he's in Iraq right now. He'll miss the whole pregnancy but MAY be home for the birth... i'm so sorry your husband will miss yours. that's so hard to think about) But in the book there's a story about a woman whose husband deploys right after their baby is born and so she's always showing the baby pictures and things like that, saying "that's daddy!" and the baby wasn't talking yet, but one night they were able to see Daddy on the video phone, and as soon as his face popped up on the screen she said her first word, "DADDY!" and he got to hear it from all the way overseas. Talk about a magical moment! ;) So I definitely think that is a good idea, and I have great confidence it will work as you hope!

Welcome and congratulations.
I'm sorry to hear your hubby won't be there to celebrate the birth. Don't worry about not cleaning as often as pre-pregnancy, I get too tired as well!
Ava Grace is a beautiful name, I *love* Grace for a middle name.
Sebastien Drake is quite different, I can't say I've actually heard of Drake before...but that's just probably cos I'm an Aussie :P
Good luck with it all.

Thanks. When I worked at a daycare, there was a 9 year old girl that I adored named Grace. Ever since I met her, I fell in love with the name and vowed to use it at least as a middle name if I have a girl. Drake is a rather quirky name, but we both love it. We wanted to give them middle names to fall back on in case they go through a stage of hating their first names.

welcome and congrats. I am a navy wife too but stationed in Norfolk. Fortunately my husband will be home (as far as I know) for the birth but that won't be guaranteed till the end of the month when the boat enters the drydock. It's definitely a wonderful thing that you can go home and be with your mom - for a while I was looking at a similiar situation of being husbandless but I am stuck here with my job. Fortunately, as with the navy the plans changed and now he is here. Anywho, good luck.

Lucky! If they just push this cruise back a month, he can see the baby born, at least. We're hoping that maybe he'll be in a port like Hawaaii or something for a few weeks around the birth time, so that if he can't be there, at least he'd get to hold the newborn.
