ok I failed my 1 hour glucose (i wasn't shocked) so this morning I had to do the 3 hour. man was that awful. the sugary stuff is fine and I pretended it was tequila and did shots, but about 4 hours later I'm about ready to die I think. the nurses seemed surprised that someone would go back to work after this? but no one mentioned that before ( Read more... )

4 hour nap!

i feel like I was hit by a truck. I'm really hoping that doesn't mean that I'm diabetic!

when you go into your appt they test your urine for a ton of different things and one of them is sugar. I had sugar in my urine at my last appointment so they set me up early to do the 1 hour glucose test. that usually happens around week 28. you drink the sugary stuff and then they test your blood an hour later. if you fail it, they make you do a 3 hour test (what I had to do today) and if you fail that you are considered to have gestational diabetes. if you pass the first one they usually don't make you take the second one, but i think they make most pregnant women do it. but you can say no obviously if you don't want to :-p
it wasn't bad, i just crashed afterwards and it was kind of boring sitting at the dr. office for like 100 years.

I know some doctors do a routine one around 27 weeks whether you have symptoms or not - but I'm sure it depends on your doctor!

No worries, babe - I totally failed my 1 hour (they screened me early because I have PCOS), and I passed my 3 hour with flying colors! And I had no barfing first trimester either, so that doesn't mean you'll have to do "time" with gestational diabetes because of this! I predict you'll be fine!

oh i know :) i was just joking :)

thanks :) i hope I am.

i'm kind of mad because they made me go off my metformin when I got pregnant and i failed the first urine test after I was off it (metformin is for diabetics, but i took it for PCOS) but its better to know if I am or not. and I don't relaly mind if I'm not :) the test was just annoying :)

haha, I figured you were kidding, but...I tend to actually think like that sometimes, lol...I know, it's bad, and I hate to be negative, but...yeah.

I'm allergic to metformin, which sucks...I have PCOS as well
