A while ago, Don introduced me to a progressive rock band called Frost*. WAIT! Don't run away just yet - yes, I said "prog" - bad Guy. Seriously though, what I think puts most people off progressive music is the fact that most prog bands can't write a memorable song to save themselves. What could possibly change your mind about them is that Frost* ( Read more... )

Nice song. It does make me wonder why prog rock isn't more mainstream.

Watched the whole of that Roland vid. What a cheater. (-; Nah it's interesting. Personally I'd get a cheaper keyboard and have a computer do some of the work but that's just me. I am sorely missing my piano and I don't even have a keyboard here. My old Evolution MK-149 is back in Jersey but I don't want it anymore. I want something full range with a good piano feel to it. That doesn't come too cheaply. I have my eye on this but I can't justify the expense right now.

Was that the synth I played about with in Sound control that time? It's cool but just has too many buttons. Anything that has buttons about saw waves, etc can get to fuck. I like pick sound, play sound simplicity! Otherwise I forget how I made sound!

The reason on-one likes Prog music is because it is all so bland. There is no drama because it is all so measured. It is very subtle and no-one gets subtle. In this environment of constant stimulus and near autistism-causing levels of media it needs to do something basic and punchy. And for all of its contrived, thoughtful cleverness Prog ain't dramatic. And too much synth sounds like Dad-rock

Though yeah, that second vid is very interesting. Though his level of musical ability puts me off!
