I started designing websites very recently (kind of by accident) - I'm working on a couple now and they sure look nice but I still have no idea what I'm doing. a client wants to be able to update text on her band site while she's on the road, 'til now I've just been making a scrollbox in dreamweaver, editing the text offline and re-uploading the ( Read more... )

Depending just which text they want to be able to update (e.g. if they just want to keep a travelogue, and don't need be able to directly manipulate any of the text outside of that section), and how much control you have over the site server, it seems like a straightforward solution would be just to install some blogging software, and set up some part of the site as a weblog. I couldn't tell you much about what software to use, though, or how specifically to set it up, since being on livejournal the past few years has meant I don't have to pay much attention on my own account. I guess Movable Type is probably good?

hmm, thanks... I have no control over the server whatsoever, don't speak php/mysql, and am generally feeling well over my head. the general plan right now is to install filezilla on her laptop so she can update the site when she's got it around, and stick up a link to her myspace for emergencies. ^_^

you bet! a magic website would be super fun. it'll be about 2 months before I could start anything though, I've got a backlog... :D
