problem: the purple thistle was unbearably hot. the thermometer brought in at 4:30pm yesterday read 35 degrees in the computer lab.

solution: a giant (2400 sq ft) white tarp on the roof to reflect the sun! thermometer at noon today says it's 25 degrees indoors!

For someone like me, whose intelligence (such as it is) is spent almost entirely in ways not directly pertaining to the practical physical world, there is something almost mystical about how clever and useful an idea that is.
