I feel like recent events deserve a LJ entry.
On Saturday I asked Sara to marry me.
I'd been planning for months, and had my whole family in on the proposal.
Late August I went to Milanj Jewelers in the King of Prussia mall and purchased a ring. It took about a month for me to actually receive the ring, since it needed to have the stone set into it and to have it resized. Once I had the ring I had to wait. I knew I wanted to propose in Philadelphia, because in Madison staying with Sara I don't have the control over the situation I wanted. So I waited, and I essentially put off moving to Madison so I could propose in Philadelphia, and have time to run the errands I needed to run.
I took her to dinner in the Gayborhood- Upstars at Varalli's. Dinner was wonderful, and I wasn't nervous at all. In my mind I had separated the evening into two parts. First, there was dinner, and then there was the Art Museum. While Sara and I were at dinner, my father was at the Philadelphia Museum of Art setting up a picnic in the back of the building. We weren't finished with dinner until it was already dark out, so when we got to the museum she didn't notice that to the left of the gazebo were lanterns lighting a path to a blanket with a basket, ice bucket and champaign. My father was sitting on the path reading. He expected us to arrive later then we did, but I didn't mind seeing him. I said "thanks dad, you can leave now". He smiled, said "okay have a great time" and left. We walked to the blankets, and sat drinking champaign for a while. We watched the water, and cuddled under two blankets. (Sara is always cold. I planned ahead.)
I had a whole speech prepared, but as soon as I reached down into the basket I forgot everything. I pulled out an antique book- "The Complete Works of Shakespeare." (This is significant because not only is Sara a Modern History and Literature major in school, but she has a Shakespeare quote on her hip that I went with her to get back in May.) "What's this?" she asked. "Open it," I said. Inside, a few pages into "Two Gentlemen of Verona," sitting on a red velvet pillow (that I made myself!), was the ring.
"That's a really good book!" she said, and then started to cry. She was crying for a few minutes, so I started to get worried! "Will you marry me, Sara?" I asked.
"Of course."
At which point I started to cry. I knelt down in front of her with the ring and placed it on her finger.
It was the most amazing moment of my life.
Afterwards we sat for a while, and then got excited and started calling people. We went to Jenn's and had the rest of the champaign with her and Heather. Then we went back home and my mom took pictures (heh).
So, that's the story! Let me tell it to you in person- it's hard to tell how happy I am when I'm writing it all out.
It's a hearts and arrows cut diamond- so when you look at it under a microscope you see hearts one way and arrows the other.
