I hate it when people think that individual effort doesn't make a difference in the greater scheme of things.

Sure, when you consider that you are one in more than six billion people, of course it doesn't seem like your actions will have any effect on anything global.  But, COME ON.  For pity's sake (because I've never heard of anything more ( Read more... )

Thanks, that means a lot :)

It's been building up for a while, but last night I felt so frustrated by it that I wrote it all down. Especially this past week, as I've been telling people about my new vegetarian-like tendencies, and people have been, without pause, telling me that it won't make a difference...I've been feeling this great urge to rip that theory to shreds.

You rip that theory to shreds, young lady. I saw clips of Pay It Forward and you can change the meat-packing tendencies of many an American.

And I shall join you in your crusade... goodbye Turkey, hello Tofurkey!

You're very right you know, and I support you on it. I'm partial vegetarian as you know (poulty, but no red meat) and I plan to go full veg in college becuase it'll be easier, but who's to say I can't affect things while I do it! I know two families personally who are complete vegetarians: the children have never really desired meat and in one family, the daughter (she's my age) intends to have a vegetarian family herself. Just what you said put into action right there.

Those people who say that it won't make a difference? You go ahead and reply "At least I'm trying. It's more then you're doing."

I know, but that's the beauty of my non-absolutist vegetarianism...the way I'm dealing with eggs right now is by not making myself anything that involves eggs for their own sake, like omelets and stuff. Which, for me, is a substantial sacrifice since omelets are by far my favorite breakfast food and I used to have them often. So I'm cutting down on eggs, but not comletely eliminating them, since then I really would be pretty much confined to salads haha.

ahhhh but the point is not personal sacrifice- it's to save the animals!
that point doesn't work!
you're not saving the chickens!
;)
nice try though.
keep trying- we'll see who wins...

Haha. I refuse to play this game because I have nothing to prove. Buuuutt to clarify, when I said sacrifice, I didn't mean personal sacrifice on my part; I said "sacrifice" to emphasize my significant cut-back on egg eating, since a large portion of the eggs I ate before were in omelet form, since I liked them so much....whiiiiiich is my small contribution to saving the chickens.
