Case #16: It's All Deranged

Jun 29, 2011 23:27

[Sam, sounding a bit exasperated. ie: nothing really very new.]
... camp? CAMP is it?

Dear God, what next?

I don't suppose there's anyone out there who's not taking part in all this... insanity?

not cursed, no control

What? ...and not take part in this fun? They're so easy to manipulate and play with right now!

Manipulate?

Play with. This is a camp curse. Take advantage of the situation. There's a lot of fun to be had with such a curse.

[It might be hard to tell, but he's completely lying and not lying over the use of manipulate. But then again, he's a chronic liar.]

I'm not. Was starting to it was just me who weren't involved.

[And she is on the police now. So presumably they've met? OR AT LEAST AWARE OF EACH OTHER. Since I have your PM now. \o/]

No, but it seems we're in the minority. I have to say, I'm relieved to be able to talk to people not trying to get me to join in some camp song, or to help them build a fire.

Well, it could be worse. Seems an odd choice if these deities can make people believe anything, really.

The imagination is a powerful thing.

As far as curses go, it's fairly harmless.

Harmless? It's no wonder we're not taken seriously by the public. How are we supposed to do our jobs when we're waylaid by basket weaving, and macaroni sculptures?

Try not to let it waylay you.

That still won't take care of the problem that we have only a handful of officers tending to their duties right now. We have to find some way to counter these curses...

I'm unaffected. I've never even gone to camp, and I'm rather glad of that*. It's not that much more insane than the rest of the curses, though, is it?

*Sometimes, the upper crust** of Ankh-Morpork got it into their heads that their hyperactive children would like nothing more than to make pictures of their family out of macaroni, swim in a naturally occurring lake, go for a hike in the woods, and sing around a bonfire. They'd always come back with horror stories of smiling counselors, and nightmares of melted marshmallow, promising that they'd behave for the rest of their lives.

**And there was definitely a crust. Especially after the river flooded, then it was about 2-3 inches thick.

Anything that takes us away from our duties is a problem. My department seems to be more vacant than usual...

In Ankh-Morpork, there's was a special forces team for when there weren't enough people on duty. Maybe we could organize one here, too.

That's a really good idea, actually.

So they'd basically be a trained unit of the populace that's put 'on call' then?
