Ideas stolen from wickedwench, pir8fancier, and just about everywhere; but I may have a rational for "obsessed James".
Criticism, concrit, ideas, all welcome.
I need all the help I can get with this.

I like this explanation a lot better than James becoming obsessed over Moby (Sparrow) Dick. ;) I can see James wrecking all to go after Sparrow in order to save Andrew.

It makes perfect sense that TPTB would go after Gillette for the screw-up with Dauntless. In fact, I always figured the reason Gillette wasn't in DMC was because he received a dishonorable discharge for allowing pirates to take Dauntless. 'Course he could always become a privateer and...GAH! Too many bunnies! :)

Seriously though - good work on that.

Wicked exposition, Felaine.

I can totally see it working; James has proved he will do anything for the one he loves and we all know that he loves Andrew more truly than he did Elizabeth, because Andrew would never betray him for the wrong reasons.
With the best of intentions they crucify each other, don't they?
Maybe Dauntless is hiding in the region of the Isla de Muerta, which is why there is a story going round that it disappeared. Or words to that effect, I forget the bit of dialogue from DMC concerning the Isla.
Yes, I can really see this happening.

It's a great story! Are you thinking of writing it, because I would love to read it :) I particularly like that it preserves the Dauntless, because I loved that great big beautiful ship and it would be such a shame to waste her ( ... )

oooh, interesting, veeeerrry interesting. :) I like it. I agree with others that the preservation of the Dauntless would be a lovely thing, and I think you've got some good ideas for explaining James' actions.
