Is there some way I can just read the boards of communities I belong to, and not have all the postings come through my friends' list into my LJ, or into my email
( Read more... )
I don't think I'm too smart at LJ, but when you first join a community it gives you the option of whether or not you want the community to be on your friends list. If you say no, it just shows up as a community you're a member of, but you don't have to get the mail. So I think if you just unfriend the community, you may still stay a member but not get the posts. If it totally dumps you off, rejoin, but this time do not have it put on your f-list. That's just a guess, but it might work.
Though, fabu's method is much simpler... but mine works well if you have multiple friends filters.
(And I do... particularly because there are some communities that I do want to read regularly and then other communities that I don't... Same goes with certain LJ friends that I don't want to offend by defriending but don't really want to read them all the time... and don't want to offend them by my political opinions and other opinions they might find offensive.)
If you want to know how to set up a friends-filter, just give us a shout.

Just try removing it from your flist and see if it works?

Go here:

scroll down to where it says "navigation strip" and check the first box (after picking whichever color strikes your fancy)...
After saving the options you should see something at the top of your flist that looks like:
