What a creative twist to the gossip idea. I like the fact that Elizabeth is hyper-sensitive to criticism at this point. That feeling that everyone is talking about you is a familiar one. And the fact that she learns that not everything is about her is lovely. I do like your Mrs. Demerest with her split seam. And the two lieutenants snickering like boys are great.
Favourite lines: to rub my nose in supposed flaws as if I were an errant puppy Ha! Sounds like Elizabeth has already had her nose rubbed a few times. And what a word picture!
the-governor's-daughter-is-not-amused tone So very Elizabeth--pulling rank when it suits her and ignoring rank when it suits her.
I fear both pews succumbed to a most impious fit of giggling LOL! I like the picture of the society ladies and the officers of the Dauntless all being overcome by a fit of the giggles in Church. And I love the way you let the ladies of the town get their own back - they can't *all* be malicious, gossiping harpies after all, and tolerance goes both ways :) Like it! You are the champion of the fandom's underdogs. Thank you!
LOL ! These endlessly bickering Gillette and Elizabeth are starting to make me think of Benedick and Beatrice in Much Ado about Nothing... ^^ Witty, funny, and wonderfully balanced as always.
