Christmas anyone?

Have you noticed all the commercials on tv saying "Christmas?"  I see a great change from last year when companies refused to say "Christmas" just to be non-discriminatory.  And have you seen any of the Wal-mart adds?  "Christmas" dinner, "Christmas" morning, "Christmas" gifts, etc...  Wow, a big turnaround from last year.  Maybe the companies have ( Read more... )

I see it like this:

There is a Christian religious holiday called Christmas.

There is also a secular American midwinter holiday that is also called Christmas. Some of the traditions overlap, but the secular holiday may be celebrated by people whose connection to Christianity as a religion is limited.

Me, I have my birthday, my husband's birthday, my friend's birthday, my dad's birthday, Solstice, Christmas, and New Year's to celebrate. December is Party Month.

Exactly... I love Christmas because that means it's my sister's and mom's birthdays (day before and day after). I'm just happy that retail companies have realized it's okay to say "Merry Christmas" just like it's okay to say "Happy Hannakuh" and other stuff.

Mind you, the sheer thrill I got when someone in a store looked at me, smiled, handed me my change and said, "And have a happy Solstice!" made me realize just how much I accept being an outlyer in terms of the holiday celebrations.

Well, if I knew the dates for other holidays, then I'd tell others happy "insert holiday here". But when I do that and am uninformed, I just sound like a crazy person. I need the calendar that has all holidays that anyone celebrates on it, so I'm more informed.
