I couldn't figure what the mess of pasta with dog turds on it was meant to be until I saw it building up against the pile of hamburgers. Then I knew it was Russia but still couldn't figure out why a mess of pasta with uhh brown things on it was Russia. Beef Stroganoff never looked like that when *I* made it, on account of my (and any proper) Beef Stroganoff is gloppy with sour cream.

Also: insufficient variation between the American fries and the British chips, either of which might have been frites.

I could identify the battles and thus the combatants, but not always the food e.g. matzo, beef stroganoff. Even the fish-and-chips were not too immediately obvious (though the sausage-nunchaku!Blitz was a fine touch).

The Korean and Vietnam wars were brilliantly done, as were the "oil" fields and night raids of the Iraq wars. Felt a tad queasy about the 9/11 representation and the last scene (insects cleaning up mess in Iraq), though.

(didn't catch that it was a nunchaku; clearly have not watched enough Bruce Lee)

Lots of it was queasy-making, including the suicide and roadside bombers. I took the insects as a general statement. War feeds only the scavengers. Sort of like Sandburg's Grass only less beneficent:

Pile the bodies high at Austerlitz and Waterloo,
Shovel them under and let me work-
I am the grass; I cover all.

And pile them high at Gettysburg
And pile them high at Ypres and Verdun.
Shovel them under and let me work.
Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?
Where are we now?

I am the grass.
Let me work.

And you thought Hetalia was too cracked out? ^_^

Actually I found this while looking through some of the Hetalia LJ comm entries (usually I look for vids and/or art - reading about literal national characters is still jarring, while graphic portrayals seem to go down a tad better).

Some of the Hetalia vids by Japanese and Chinese fans are amazing o_o
