We didn't dock at Grand Turk until noon on Friday. We applied sunblock liberally and headed out for a sunny day on the beach...only I inexplicably missed a patch on one leg and got a serious sunburn that is still peeling.
To start, we parked ourselves in some partially shaded lounge chairs, next to Josh and Keyla. Another ship was docked alongside ours, so the one eating establishment at the "cruise port", Margaritaville, was overflowing with people. I ventured into their courtyard to get a frozen margarita for Kevin and a Coke for me; though my stomach was back to normal, I avoided alcohol for the rest of the day just to be safe.
We saw other friends heading further down the beach, so we relinquished our chairs and walked a bit. Two musicians who had joined us on the cruise (one half of a band called
The Americans) brought their guitars to the beach and entertained us. We played in the water and buried Susie, then Jeff in the sand. I headed back to the ship a little earlier than Kevin and relaxed before we had to change for dinner (it was another formal night).
We lined up early outside the dining room and succeeded in grabbing spots at Randi's table. Conversation turned to science fiction (Randi was good friends with the late Isaac Asimov, among others) and the film 2001. I opted to retire immediately after dinner, and with the Card Room closed due to some other activity in the adjoining ballroom, Kevin wandered around and finally joined some friends in the Wine Bar.
