I have had almost two weeks away from being a counselor and having classmates comment on my clients. This post reaffirms to me that you will (and already do) make an excellent counselor. Even though confrontation is a needed technique in counseling I really fear that many many counslors put it first before unconditional positive regard. That safe space you talk about is the absolute crux of successful therapy. So many of my classmates seemed to be in the business just to give advice and tell clients what they were doing wrong. What a ridiculous notion. The only way a client can change is if they figure things out that work for them as individuals, you just provide the space and human connection for them to do so.

We will be driving back on Sunday, so it depends on what time we leave Seattle. We will call you when we get into town.

I think what bothers me the most is that my professor is doing the same thing as my classmates. It makes me wonder.
