So i've been at a loose end tonight, tired from last night's 20km run through the Pentlands, and ended up browsing Livejournal. I set up an account here back in 2001 at the insistance of kasyx and have been updating to some degree or another ever since ( Read more... )

Of course I might be another user who disappears into the night, leaving an unfinished tale for all sabledemon March 31 2012, 13:30:26 UTC
You will die eventually :P

I think a lot of people like Fbook because they follow the crowd and it lets them feel connected; they can share every trivial thought and it lets them be lazy.

Quite a few others moved to Dreamwidth or fell out of the habit of posting because of the DOS problems LJ has had. Someof us are just very random about it anyway :P

It was facebook that pushed me away from LJ in the end (although my account's still active, and I still harbour fantasies of one day using it again). It's partly that I can get a response from one tiny gag rather than a whole essay, which makes things easier for me. But it was also, after a while, that even when I did write a long essay, no-one was reading it.

I guess mine was always less a journal than a series of anecdotes, and of course the whole point of telling an anecdote is to get a laugh. But I do miss it enormously: there's nowhere else I can write in that form. Maybe I should do that thing where I write an LJ entry and then link it to facebook? But that still wouldn't reach the friends I've lost just through only knowing them here. It's kinda sad sometimes, progress.
