Social networking and individual choice - part 2

So I had a go at Facebook earlier. I am not happy with the way it currently is. Fair enough, that's my choice. I came to the decision after a couple of particular occasions ( Read more... )

Facebook is definitely not the place to think and write. I tend to use it as the 'public face' of me.

I'm wondering if there will be a drift back to LJ or if something else will turn up that will give some depth and some division (like Google+ but without the creepiness that jessie_pup highlights). Or perhaps we will just hit a wall with all this e-communication and fall silent?

The 3-4 minutes was a bit of a made up figure. I was thinking that if I was sitting there browsing posts in the morning, how much time I would spent reading and commening on a post. Bigger things that you want to reply to you have to think 'Must remember that in the evening'. I usually forget!

Sorry if i'm being confusing (I think my brain was melting by the time I was writing this second piece) but I did not mean that facebook needed finishing, it was a comment about me finding I had 'lots of tasks needing finished'

I'm going to weigh in in favour of Google+ here, mainly because that what I use, every day, several times a day and I love it, even if a small proportion of the people I know who I've added to my circles are actually active there. It's their choice not mine, I can find other people to interact with with the topics that matter to me

and so could you https://plus.google.com/s/triathlon

As for privacy concerns, I don't get what people get so worked up about, Google lets you download all your data and they don't keep anything - at all - if you decide you want to leave. Unlike the big blue F.

In fact privacy and restriction to whom you share with is one of the easiest features of Google+, you're always in control.

I love it, but that's just me you have to figure out what works best for you.

I think both your entries are well thought out, and I guess I sort of feel the same from time to time with a few differences. I've made the decision to limit my Friends on Facebook a bit more (I think I'm at 70-something?). I use it to make short comments on what I'm up to or how I'm feeling, but nothing like I would say in my journal. And I don't feel the need to spam it with as many comments as some ( ... )
