Quick, let's all pretend I'm not the last person in the world to post this.

Pick a character and I will give and explain the top five ideas/concepts/etc I keep in mind while writing that character that I believe are essential to accurately depicting them.

I'll be predictable and say Reilly Tyne.

1. Underneath the costume he's just a hurt and troubled kid. He may be trapped in a man's body and living the life of an adult, but that doesn't make him a grownup.

2. Here's why he's worked so hard to keep his two "lives" separate: he doesn't really want to be Reilly Tyne. Not that the Darkdevil persona isn't genuine, but he's addicted to the masked life for a reason. (In this way he's very much his mother's son.)

3. Snark and sarcasm are Reillyese for I love you. Stalking optional.

4. On those very very very rare occasions he doesn't have his guard up, the Parker in him comes out. And by "the Parker" I mean "the dork in all Spiders". Although, like May and Ben, he manages to handle his inner geek with a bit more finesse than Peter. Trust me when I say don't get him started on legalities, though. Or ask him out on a date.

5. He'll never manage to settle down into an entirely normal life. I can't, for instance, ever since him marrying a civilian. Or even retiring for a long stretch like Peter. He needs the excitement.

Sorry this look so long!

1. He's not a carbon copy of Peter Parker. Repeat, he's NOT A CARBON COPY OF PETER PARKER. Most of these will, uh, concern that in some way or another. They're very similar, of course, but Ben has become his own man.

2. His experiences have given him a sympathy and understanding that his big "brother" sometimes lacks. It's a big part of why he was able to get through to Kaine.

3. Peter is a dork. Ben is, in TV Tropese, a Cool Loser.

4. Ben is more self-reliant and, in some ways, more mature than Peter. It's a side-effect of having to rebuild himself.

5. He will never get over his inferiority complex/identity issues entirely. By the time of his death (which is when I'm playing him) he's dealt with his angst and more or less stopped mourning the life that wasn't his. But that pain will never completely go away even if he doesn't angst about it as much.
