[OOC] Wishes and You

Jun 02, 2010 11:46

It's best to think of this like a genie's powers, except Kanda has to be willing rather than a genie's entrapment forcing them to grant wishes.

LIMITS:
The general rule that I go by is that Kanda can grant any wish that's about equal in worth to a whole lifetime--because that's what he gives up to grant the wish.

This means that yes, he can bring people back to life, but each person costs one of Kanda's lives, because one life is equal to another in this exchange.

He can't cause things to happen that would change the course of history and things like that--make Hitler die before he started the Holocaust, and things like that. (Which is all history to him, but maybe not to your pups--but you get the idea)

He can do strange things like put life into nonliving things and making it snow in the middle of summer over a whole town.

If Kanda were to attempt to grant a wish 'worth' more than a life of his, then the wish could either putter out after it runs out of energy, or it could try to consume the rest of Kanda's lives to attempt to grant the wish. The second one would only happen if Kanda was deadset on granting the wish, and willing to give his whole self to it.

KANDA AND WISHES:
Kanda can't grant his own wishes. Wishes work best coming from the heart of the person wishing them--so if he were to ask someone to wish something for him, chances are it would fall flat, because the person didn't want it themselves.

Also he would have to block out the wish itself in his own mind so it wouldn't conflict, and for anything he really wanted bad enough to go through all the trouble, it would be near impossible for him to manage to 'forget' about it in his own mind.

KANDA AND FEELING WISHES:
As long as he's within earshot of someone making a wish (in a language he understands), he can grant it. His body is full of instincts of all the rules/limits pointed out earlier even though he might not consciously realize it. But the other instincts include the automatic zero in on anyone making a wish, to the point that he might forget and drop whatever he was doing before.

The wishes want to be granted when he's near. It's like the smell of your favorite food, a very powerful craving, and an addiction all rolled into one feeling that twangs through him when someone makes a wish. He's always tempted to grant wishes, even the ones stupid and not even strong enough to form a decent wish. It's terribly tempting to give in to that pull and just let the magic flow right out to form the wish.

Kanda himself doesn't have anything to do with how the wish forms, he just provides the juice. It's the wish in the person's mind that causes the magic to form into something. Which means even if you fumble the words, but have the idea strong in your mind, the wish will still do what you want. It's not like in books and movies where the genies or wishing wells find the cracks in your words and uses it to their advantage. Kanda doesn't have control over that, and it's up to the wisher to have a strong idea of what they want for the wish to work properly.

Once the wish is granted, Kanda feels that loss from his lifetime and power--it's not exactly pain but it still isn't anything nice to feel. To put it in terms of pain, it "hurts like a bitch", and granting a wish usually leaves him pretty ill and useless for a day or so depending on the wish.

HOW IT WORKS:
Kanda doesn't actually need to be anywhere near the wisher once he actually decides to grant the wish. He could storm off and grant it a few minutes after the wisher makes it, or a few days. If it's a real wish that Kanda's willing to grant, a few days shouldn't change the wisher's ideas about the wish in their mind--and if it does, than it's probably not a good wish anyway.

As long as Kanda has the wish on his mind (which he could possibly hold on to a wish for months by that definition, although that would be stretch unless it's something that was already on his mind a lot) it's possible that he can grant it.

To people sensitive to magic, when Kanda's thinking of of near a wish, he probably shines very bright as his powers listen in and wait for the okay to flow out and grant the wish.

The moment he does actually grant something, he probably glows just a bit as the magic leaves him... and then he'll most likely feel weak and possibly fall over. It's not exactly a nice feeling to have your life suddenly cut down by a good hundred or so years.

After the magic leaves him, it's up to the wisher how the wish is granted. So use your imagination.

KANDA AND HIS WISHES/LIVES:
Kanda can also use the same power that works the wishes to live. Basically if he gets shot or hurt mortally, it'll use up a 'wish' the same as granting a wish to heal himself. This also means if he simply lives over the time that his life would normally take, it uses up ma life as well. So every 100-120ish years that he lives takes up a life/wish.

YOUR WISHES:
Kanda currently has 4 wishes/lives left. This means he could possibly live for up to about 500 more years, or grant 4 more wishes--or some combination of both.

If you actually have a wish that you want granted, feel free to apply here. However because of the harsh IC consequences and Kanda being.. well Kanda, it's highly unlikely wishes will be granted.

Character:
Journal:
Wish: (how it will be worded when the character wishes for it, please include situation where it will be wished.)
Result: (What would happen if Kanda did grant it.)
