Hetro pride: An argument for and against.

This is to be both support and criticize the upcoming straight pride.
To be exact I'm critical of both the straight pride and those who are critical of straight pride.

In short, you are all wrong.

Ok let's start with the point of gay pride. Back in the 1980's some assholes were beating up gays. This isn't totally a new thing as harassment of homosexuality dates back to... fuck I have no idea. Biblical scripture has some anti-gay text. The roman empire had some gay pride. You get the idea. This shit is old. Anyway the point of the more recent anti-gay shit is to treat homosexuality as a perversion and shame the gays to be straight. Thus gay pride, Homosexuals are not ashamed of who they are so any attempt to use that shame is not gonna work. Be proud of who you are and don't let the bigots control your life. That's the pride message.

Ok so heterosexual people have no need for pride because they aren't being bullied when some gay rights advocate decides some real world person needs to be gay and that real world person actually being heterosexual is somehow hurting gay rights.

You've got people actually claiming being heterosexual is itself a form of bigotry.

Anyway we have situations where if someone decides someone should be gay and isn't they'll do what they can disrupt any relationship that person gets into. It's not a matter of hate either like homophobic harassment they actually think they are helping by forcing the heterosexual to turn gay. They think they are helping the target to see they are gay. The worst of it is when Gawker outed a heterosexual man as being gay and tried to destroy that mans marriage. He helped others sue Gawker just so Gawker would stop harassing his wife and kids. The only thing special about that was it was a major organization doing the harassment and the target had money.

Voice actors for edds world had to deal with this. Fans would decide an actor is gay and then on finding said actor is married they'd harass the actors wife. Can you imagine trying to date when anyone you asked out could be targeted for harassment? This is what some heterosexuals end up facing just because some asshole decided someone needed to be gay.

I knew a heterosexual furry couple that had to deal with this. Someone decided the guy in the couple was gay and would start harassing the woman in the relationship, There were two problems.
1. It was an open relationship so the woman had no problem with the idea her guy was fucking other guys. The guy however was so straight that would never happen.

2. She is bisexual. Not the homophobic lady she was accused of being.

Anyway she has thick skin (fur? She's a furry so it's worth asking) so it didn't effect the relationship.

As I understand they are married and they have nothing to do with the furry fandom anymore just to get away from the bullshit.

Ok so enough... point made. People are being kidnapped and shipped to another nation with gay conversion camps because parents are homophobic and heterosexual couples are being harassed because someone decided one of them should be gay.

Not quite the same thing so let me switch from defending straight pride to attacking it.

It's not the same. Groups like the 700 club are trying to shame gays to become straight. That is the point of “pride”. It's to say they are not ashamed of being gay so they can't be shamed into being heterosexual.

But that isn't what is happening to heterosexuals. Instead someone decides the person is already gay and would be happier in a homosexual relationship. This isn't about pride or shame. So “pride” is missing the point. It's the wrong message.

Instead the message needs to go out that disrupting heterosexual relationships because you've decided someone is gay is harassment.

There are people trying to destroy peoples lives just for not being gay. It's not as bad as those trying to force people to be heterosexual and it's certainly not the same however it is happening.

Instead of telling people you aren't shamed to be heterosexual (everyone knows this) explain that forcing a heterosexual into gay relationships is not gonna turn people gay. It's gonna turn people homophobic. Because they'll have a reason to fear gays when gay rights advocates seek to disrupt happy healthy relationships just because they aren't gay.
