I'm surprised to see the full tolkien version... there's that other shortened version you always hear too.
It reminds me of a short poem which appears in a little book of illustrated vignettes. The author/illustrator is David Sanford, if I recall correctly. It's not quite the same without the illustrations that go with it, but this might give you an idea:
In an inn late one day Three blind men dressed in grey Sat still for an hour And smiled.
Then they all ordered beer, Shouted, "We like it here!" Which encouraged the crowd To go wild.
They were joined by strange apes Who ate buttons and grapes And they all talked of pictures And plants.
And at just about dawn They all moseyed on Wearing only big buckets And pants.
