World's a bit smaller

Well, we went to have the 20-week ultrasound and... the technician couldn't be absolutely positive.  We were in there for a very long time and finally the woman running the machine said she could only look for another minute or two.  Up to that point it had been impossible to tell the sex of the baby.  Apparently legs and umbilical cord were ( Read more... )

I'm on a horrible dial-up line in Maine -- but I just had to say "Congratulations!!" Great news! Daughters and Fathers -- an incredible bond. Plus it's great to have a daughter first. She can civilize any brothers!

Hugs and high-fives,

Sarah

Thank you so much! We're very excited. I love the idea of "Daughters and Fathers" :)

By the way, I see that my local library has the Francine Prose book you mentioned. In the next few days I'm hoping to get my hands on it and see if it's as good as you say!

Both genders will win your heart... grandma_kate July 5 2007, 00:20:46 UTC
My eldest is a daughter so I may have some bias. Sara is correct that subsequent children will be 'little mothered" by a first girl. Oh, God! I am an oldest who is a girl.

I grew up in the Harbor of Los Angeles and taught for many years at an International School so I guess I've always been interested in people from other cultures. We happen to know the ethnically Russian family of a pastor from Kazakhstan quite well currently. We have quite a community of ex-pats from the former Soviet states in our area.

I love the idea of an older daughter "mothering" the younger ones. It encourages me that you both say the same thing on that topic! Of course, at this point in time my wife is saying NO MORE!!!

In school I was friends with a man from Iran. It was so interesting talking to him and listening to his views on the way that country is run. He was a really nice guy and had so many ideas for things he wanted to do to improve life for the people of his country. I just find it enjoyable learning about other cultures!
